What we need is the following:
A webbased (to be included in a browser) flashtool (*.swf) which converts .avi, .mpeg, .wmv, .asf, .mov, mp4, mjpg and all other formats to *.flv. The tool should contain a button. When hitting the button, it opens a window in which you can browse to the video on your pc. Then click on the Upload (CONVERT) button and the conversion should start. A progressbar should say how far the conversion is. (12% or 45% or 90% and so on). So the user can experience when the upload process (conversion) is done. At the end, the tool should create a thumb (*.jpg) from the video. The video and the image are both uploaded to a webdirectory.
In more detail:
1. In the tool I transfer 2 variables:
a. user_id: is the user_id of my member database (the owner of the video)
b. filename: (is a hash): example: e896a7b415bdabb77de7fc85cf4867c0
2. In a config we can state the max. Upload filesize. Let’s start with max = 10Mb per video.
3. Check the format. Trying to convert a *.jpg or a *.ppt or *.doc to .flv is of course not allowed.
4. Progressbar (how far is the conversion?): in the color of the logo of videoblog.nl.
5. Creation of a thumb ([login to view URL]). In this example: [login to view URL]
6. After conversion the video’s name: [login to view URL]
7. The thumb should be uploaded to /snapshots (also variable in the configfile)
8. The flv should be uploaded to /opt/videoblog_media (not webroot, also variable in the configfile)
9. At the end of the conversion the tool should post an url. Example: [login to view URL]{user_id}&filename= {filename}. After this post, the script on our site (we will make it) inserts the proper data in our database.
10. Extra vars for the url post:
a. Duration of the video in seconds.
What’s more?
We need proper documentation/manual for how to install the tool on our webserver and the source code. Please not that we need a tool which is made completely in flash. So no java scripting
- The (standard) popup dialogbox to browse a video on your pc should also work in Flash 10 (and 9).
- On the net you can find a lot of bug reports regarding this common problem which was introduced with Flash10.
- For example: [login to view URL]
Our policy is that nobody gets (root)-access to our webservers. We will install it ourselves by your documentation/[login to view URL] only after we have tested the tool.
