CURRENT WORKING EXPERIENCE

*Self-employed, June 1995 to present, as a freelance writer

*Current primary clients: Computer Power User magazine (www.cpumag.com) and Consumer Guide Web site (www.consumerguide.com).
*Computer Power User: Responsible for writing and researching stories on new technologies and hardware for “White Paper” and "X-Ray" sections of magazine. Responsible for breaking down complex technologies into easy-to-understand terminology for readers and helping readers understand “how” and “why” a technology works. Responsible for interviewing those who developed the technology, again breaking down information into an easy-to-understand format. Responsible for working with illustrators and developing graphical elements for each story that illustrates the technology.
*Consumer Guide: Responsible for testing and writing reviews of products aimed at small office/home office settings, such as multifunction devices, desktop fax machines, and desktop copiers. Responsible for testing and writing reviews of digital cameras. Responsible for writing “how-to-buy” advice articles for same product categories.

*Staff writer, writing about complex computing procedures and trends for a novice computing audience. Responsible for generating story ideas, illustration ideas, software and hardware testing, and working with all aspects of computing.

*Sports writer (August 1992-December 1993): Responsible for editing and writing about high school sports in Columbus area as part of two-person sports team, along with photography, headline writing, page layout, and graphics work. Redesigned “Scoreboard” page and Sports section graphics.
*News writer (January 1990-August 1992): Responsible for writing about city government, police department, and fire department.
*Copy editor (January-June 1991): Spent six months as a copy editor, responsible for page layout, headline writing, and story editing, while another staff member served in the Persian Gulf War.
