User Profile

Versatile freelancer with a PhD in Operations Research (Combinatorial Optimization) and 15 years of industry experience. I provide solutions in multiple areas where scientific, quantitative analysis is involved. Examples include audio engineering, statistical modeling, IT system performance modeling, discrete mathematics, algorithms and more. Please see detailed service description for more information.

I enjoy taking up projects where a mix of strong research ability AND high industry exposure is required, especially at an executive decision-making level. Typically you would not engage me as a full-time staff member; rather, you would look to me (or my firm) to bring in specialized capabilities to support your staff. Two small examples

- You would bring me in to design the algorithms and structure chart for a complex system, so that your programmer can focus on doing what she does best - program. (I would review the code to ensure conformity with the designed algorithms.)

- You would bring PEA in to advise your test team on how to design a capacity plan or a set of performance test cases based on a statistical workload model (which usually does not exist, so you would end up asking for advise on that too), so that your testers can focus on what they do best - running Loadrunner scripts. (PEA would review the Loadrunner scripts to ensure they conform to the test case design.)

My research work has been published in a variety of prestigious journals, conferences and magazines. To list a few that illustrate the diversity of projects I take up:

IEEE Trans System, Man & Cybernetics (Artificial Intelligence and Search)
IEEE Software (IT Project Management)
Dr Dobb' s Journal (C Programming)
IEEE Concurrency ( Scheduling Algorithms)
Mathematical Programming (Combinatorial Optimization)
AudioXpress (Loudspeaker Design)

My most significant contributions have been in the area of combinatorial optimization - my work on graph algorithms that appeared in the Mathematical Programming Journal in 2005 has been reviewed in "Handbook of Approximation Algorithms and Metaheuristics" by Teofilo F. Gonzalez (Editor), published 2007 by Chapman & Hall (CRC Computer and Information Science Series).

In my previous position I was Associate Vice President at Infosys Technologies, India's best-known IT services firm. I headed the technology consulting function for one of Infosys' business units. In this position I had the privilege of leading technology consulting engagements for several big names in the USA and Europe including Goldman Sachs, International Paper, Texas Instruments, Belgacom Mobile, Mouser-TTI and Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
