I have a degree in Computer Science from Indian Hills Community College (Ottumwa, Iowa campus) where I was later employed as a class instructor. I have over 15 years experience in the IT field with over 10 years of software development experience using Perl/CGI, mySQL, MS-SQL on various platforms for clients in the USA, Europe, and other countries around the world. I have extensive knowledge and experience in scripting e-commerce sites, freelancer sites, pay per click search engines and many other types of applications using SSL, OpenSSL, mod_perl, NET::SSLeay, Crypt::SSLeay, HTML::Template and other Perl modules. I have used Perl for over 10 years in operating systems such as Windows NT, Linux, FreeBSD, Sun, and other UNIX systems. I have written many applications in Perl which are compatible with all the operating systems listed above; such as Perl libraries to function with different databases. I have extensive experience diagnosing and repairing errors in my client’s Perl applications, often with little or no documentation. Write JavaScript for data verification, passing form data between windows, etc. Write technical support documentation in text and HTML formats. Installation and preliminary technical support of new accounts. Install CPAN modules and OpenSSL on UNIX OS. Design, write, and test client requested Perl applications. Test Perl application compatibility on BSDI, Linux, and Sun. Write and test UNIX/NT e-commerce applications in Perl. Write Perl libraries for UPS Quick Cost using Sockets and LWP::Simple. Write Perl libraries for real-time credit card processors using secure sockets. Write Perl libraries for MySQL GUIs. MySQL database design and implementation using DBI. Convert Perl flatfile database applications to MySQL. SEO - Optimize client web sites for search engine submissions. Develop SEO tools including Perl/MySQL search engine submissions, keyword generator based on Google top 10, dynamic page modification scripts, competitor alert software, etc. I have designed and managed several projects which included writing and customizing Perl shopping carts using MySQL product databases, real-time credit card processor libraries, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flatfile to MySQL database conversion - Global Whois at http://www.ratite.com/whois: Due to repetitive queries for the same domain name and the large number of queries from search engine spiders, ratite.com had been banned from accessing the NSI registry. To reduce the number of registrar queries, I designed this application to cache time-stamped domain records to MySQL tables. Tables are created in real time for generic TLDs (gTLDs), country-code TLDs (ccTLDs), nameserver registrars, and IP address registrars using the domain name column as a unique index. Queried domains were retrieved from the associated MySQL table and printed to the client's browser without performing a registrar whois lookup. Since the majority of registrar databases are updated weekly, this application can be configured to time-delete domain records that are older than XXX days every YYY days. For example, records can automatically be deleted when they are older than five days, with table checks performed at two day intervals. During these maintenance checks, empty tables are deleted and tables with deleted records are optimized. ccTLDs and gTLDs are stored and retrieved from a TLD table for printing select HTML elements. Statistical and IP address abuse tables were also added to the application. All MySQL tables are maintained in real time with no client intervention. Since this application's conversion on March 20, 2004, the number of registrar queries has been reduced by more than 300 percent and the IP address used to query whois registrars has not been banned by any registrar. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- MySQL database for soil remediation: From August 2003 to September 2004, I worked on a Perl project using a MySQL database for soil remediation. I was hired to correct errors in the application software, to perform MySQL administrative duties as needed, and to convert all remediation plants in the US to this application. The application had 140 command line errors running Perl diagnostics. Four browser-based functions were consistently timing out, leaving dozens of temporary tables on the server and database handles left opened. The project also included writing additional Perl CGI and MySQL functions, creating complex forms using JavaScript for data verification, passing form data between windows, form focus, etc. All functions are now working properly. There are no errors reported running Perl diagnostics, no browser timeouts, no temporary tables left on the server, and no database handles left opened. I continue to monitor this application. Per client agreement, ownership and URL of this application can not be disclosed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image and Video Stores - Perl / MySQL: From October 2005 to present, I've worked on creating, updating, and maintaining a multiple store system with over 5,000 stores. Each store can have up to six unique store types. I created the Image and Video store systems and templates using HTML::Template, the store owner admin section for adding products and editing store template values, JavaScript form check scripts, create and update scheduled cron scripts, etc. I designed and wrote the administrative application for reviewing sales, statistics, system maintenance and diagnostic functions, system users and privileges, etc. Due to NDA, URL of this application can only be disclosed by email request. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freelance Jobs Network - Perl / MySQL: From March 2008 to May 2008, I designed and wrote the Perl/MySQL backend required to retrieve job and project databases from their respective web sites and store each web site’s projects in a web site related table. Project databases are retrieved every twenty minutes via scheduled cron. Depending on the web site, project databases are either flatfile or XML. Where required, individual project descriptions are then retrieved from their static HTML page on the project web site. I also added RSS feeds and designed the HTML pages created from the MySQL project tables using HTML::Template.
