I am working as a full time freelancer from my home. I have 5 yrs of industrial experience. I am a designer from IDC IIT Bombay.

Cocif bought design rights for my design “win-door” in the “door to paradise” competition. Cocif is a leading furniture manufacturing giant in Longiano, Italy. My design “tear-wear” is among the 150 short listed entries from 80 countries in the world, in the “re-think, re-cycle” competition. Similarly my shortlisted design is shown in Fiat 500 design competition. The competition entries are displayed in the designboom.com web site. My shortlisted design of logo for architectureforhumanity competition is shown in their website.

Two out of my six designs for product graphics (were runners up), made for Global protection corporation are currently under production.

I worked as designer (assistant manager) in design and development, VIP industries limited, Nasik, for 2.5 Yrs. My first design of a premium luggage named “FOX” has been appreciated a lot in the APLF luggage fair in Hong Kong. There the product received orders from Gio Cellini Milano, Italy & a Poland based firm. The product involves 5 new molded components designed by me; single stem trolley, side lugs, puller, logo and handle insert. The product and its components have been manufactured in China.
Next is “Classe”, a collection of suitcases strolleys and duffels, a premium design that was required at less cost. This product has also been made in China. Other products are Daffodil Vanity case & Value engineered PU Satchel, where keeping the cost low was a major concern. In PU Satchels I designed a new stiffener that offers flexibility to be used in various other similar products. The stiffener design allows it to be used in different sizes of luggage. A Patent has been filed for the same.
I had visited the Chinese vendors in DongGuan thrice for the development of Fox.

Worked as designer (design manager) in design and development, home appliances division, Bajaj Electricals ltd, Mumbai, for 2.5yrs. My design of a popular iron DX3 is a full in-house design and seen as the best design in its category so far. This design solves all the earlier problems of fit and finish. The complex surface was modeled in Alias design studio, while the internal details were done in Pro-E.
My other project is a instant water heater which is a new form design as replacement of an existing not so appealing product.
Alias design studio and Pro-E has been used extensively, for all the product designs. 3D printing and SLS has been used for making prototypes, to depict exactly what the final design is going to look like. In addition to all this a lot of work for graphic design has been done for various products in Corel Draw and Photoshop.
My profile here involved generating product brief from various market requirements and then converting the brief into various concepts which further converted into prototypes and finally as a manufacturable model. It also involves close coordination with the marketing department, understanding the actual need of the product. There is a lot of work on the aesthetics of the product as that becomes the USP.

Projects

1. DEVELOPMENT OF LUMINAIRES FOR CFL
The objective was to develop a range of luminaries for Compact Fluorescent Lamp for corporate offices and also to redesign the existing holders for the same. The project provided a lot of freedom in explorations with form and poduct detailing was incorporated to the last screw. Finally 4 designs were presented as final products along with the advertisement concepts.

2. DEVELOPMENT OF A RANGE OF SHAMPOO PRODUCTS
A leading FMCG company is planning to diversify via brand extension of its established products. The project resulted in two sets of approaches one being the conservative (which was close to the existing product range allowing a family look) and other being the freak out one (where liberty was taken to be different in the final design). These approaches helped to come up with totally different and varied concepts for bottle as well as graphic (label)design giving more flexibility of thought. Interestingly the freak out concepts and the The company people liked proposed advertisements.

3. REPOSITIONING OF BAMBOO CRAFTS IN CHANDRAPUR DISTRICT
The project aimed at finding ways to reposition the bamboo products made in Chandrapur district and in turn suggests means which would make the life of people over there independent and would develop a strong business link. Different business models were studied and an optimal model was proposed along with design inputs for the products.

4. REFRIGERATOR HANDLE REDESIGN
Circus Design Studio, Santacruz, Mumbai.
Refrigerator handle redesign for Videocon appliances limited. Well designed existing handles in the market were studied and same level of intricate detailing was incorporated in the final design. Introduced to Solidworks, made all the final working drawings in AutoCAD.

I participated in the 3 days live workshop organized by Prof. Aniruddha Joshi aimed at teaching the techniques of contextual inquiry for gathering, interpreting, externalizing and consolidating information about users.
Worked in a industry sponsored product redesign project in IDC under Prof. A.G.Rao as research assistant. The 3 months project consists of redesigning products made by 7 organizations for new markets and to come up with new product concepts.
