Principal Network & Systems Architect/ion-ip July 2003-Present
Cable & Wireless sold off its non-strategic Northern European Assets under a Management buyout agreement. Within this group I built a new network consolidating the existing in country networks. After the project management and procurement phase my team and myself built the nodes and are now operating it. Since the whole operation of the network falls under my responsibility, I am also taking care of vendor and telecoms supplier management. It is part of my function to formulate a vision on the network inline with the demand of the business and make budget proposals to the board of directors.

Network Engineer Global Design Authority/Cable & Wireless 2000-June 2003
Rationalisation of Cable & Wireless owned networks in Benelux. Design and deployment using Extreme and Juniper hardware of new network for Dutch C&W owned hostingprovider. Engineering level support for SS7 based dial platform and engineering responsable for new European dial platform. Creation of four different node designs which will be deployed to standardize Pan-European network, with nodal capacity ranging from DS3 to STM-16. Review and creation of designs/papers for the global backbone.

Network & Systems Manager Benelux/Cable & Wireless 2000-June 2003
Online Internet was bought by Cable & Wireless and next to maintaining core level support for the UNIX systems and backbone, assumed a teamleader position. Responsible for planning and budgetmanagement for buildout and operation of ISP network. Set up procedures between Operations and Support departments. Rationalisation of ISP network to blend it in with Cable & Wireless network.

Senior Network & Systems Engineer/Online Internet 1999-2000
Design authority for own and customer networks. Led deployment and design of new services and servers. Responsible for day to day operations of nationwide ISP network. Adapted existing backup and network management packages for use in the own network.Coded vISP supporting userhomepages server starting from existing packages. Core Linux/FreeBSD/Solaris system administration and security. Administration of the Cisco based OSPF/RIP/BGP4 backbone.

Network & Systems Engineer/Online Internet 1998-1999
Online Internet was the merger of four national ISPs in Belgium, one of them being Globe Internet. Merger of the four ISP networks was completed in six months by consolidating them arround the Globe Internet backbone. Designed and implemented distributed mail system and adapted existing software to support hashing and vpop support. This system is currently still running and supports 50000 customers and 3000 different maildomains. Desgined and implemented nationcovering BGP multihomed network following high level designplan of management to replace existing network infrastructure.

Part time position as Network & Systems Engineer/Globe Internet 1997-1998
Preliminary testing and deployment of OSPF on Livingston Portmasters and consequently the backbone to replace the existing EIGRP solution. Operation and securing of Linux systems and network management of a BGP multihomed network.

Part time position as Junior Network & Systems Engineer/Globe Internet 1996-1997
In charge of deploying and updating servers and network nodes for a Belgian national ISP. Operated Linux based common customer services. (Mail/Sendmail, NNTP/Inn, Proxy/Squid, HTTP/Apache) Designed and deployed proprietary backup solution with central management for the UNIX servers.
