Photography:
I have worked as a freelance photographer specialising in dance, theatrical and model photography, (I am a qualified dance teacher, myself).
Translation:
I spent five years as a director of a group of companies which included a French subsidiary of which I was PdG.
Copywriting and proofreading:
I pride myself on my grammatically correct written and spoken English as used in the United Kingdom, but can write to US and Australian English standards as well if required. I am an experienced salesman at national and international level, and a motivational speaker. I have spent some ten years in advertising sales for various well-known household name companies both in hard copy and internet advertising, partly prior to working as a webmaster, and now again since leaving that post.
I am a great believer in programming that is simple to understand. One of the greatest reasons for the existence of this website is that too many software developers write software that only they understand, costing companies needless expense in modifications to the software at a later date. I write code that is neatly laid out, logically ordered and sensibly but not excessively commented.
ASP/SQL:
I have spent five years managing a fully data based e-secure system (no longer operational), using ASP script, SQL and JavaScript and a Microsoft Access 2000 database (release 9.0.3821 SR-1), although it also included an extensive framed HTML section. Although I am familiar with Dreamweaver, I still prefer the somewhat steam-driven AOLPress as a WYSIWYG editor, and, despite having that available to me, do most programming in Microsoft WordPad. My knowledge is nowadays limited.
The website was complemented with a back office Microsoft Access forms system using the same database, containing some 2000 products sourced from over thirty different countries.
Prior to that I spent several years working as a programmer on operational control systems for the emergency services in the UK, Canada and Algeria, and also with two major financial institutions in London, where I was principally involved in the development and maintenance of, at the time, the world’s fastest distributed communications system linking the (... name of bank removed ...) City dealing rooms with Reuters and Telerate.
