Bid On This Project

Description

I am looking for an experienced Linux administrator who can help me connect a gameserver on one server connect to its database on another remote server so that an online game called Imperial Wars can run correctly. Experience with OpenBase database or other SQL databases will be needed and some knowledge of Java may be useful. This system was running for over two years up until four months ago when the hard drive failed on the database computer. Since then, a new computer running OpenSUSE has been configured with OpenBase and with the current game database resurrected from a backup. The game server machine is running an older version of slackware and was developed with Java WebObjects.

I am able to get the machines to almost connect but something stops the final point of connection and causes the gameserver to hang. The initial task is to connect the gameserver to the database so that games are available for play. The ability to communicate clearly, document and recommend improvements will be a deciding factor in awarding winner.

General information concerning Imperial Wars can be found at http://imperialwars.com and I will be providing all the rest of the needed information to the freelancer who accepts this bid.

There will be several ongoing tasks in normalizing and improving the connectivity issues as well as working on various improvements in other component systems. Once we have the game system working again I will be looking to add a part time team of DBA, system programmer and client programmer to port from OpenBase to an open source database, port WebObjects Java to up-to-date system and to begin re-versioning the game.

After receiving the login credentials, either to command line, CPANEL or some other administration interface, I will ensure the database is set up correctly AND securely to allow access from only the web server. Once complete, will test the database connectivity from the web server, and then from the Java applet.

This is Sohan Sangwan from Bangalore, India. I have been working on PostgreSQL database for the past 4 years. I have worked on developement level. I can do your work easily as I have good knowledge of database connectivity. I would like to use C language in this case. As the architecture is not clear about your server, therefore I need some more information to explain how I can accomplish the task. I would also like to know if you would like TCP prortocol or infiniband protocol.
