Description

Develop and implement a paid search marketing program for a company offering SaaS solutions and associated outsourced services to help companies automate the collection of Point of Sales (POS) data from their distributors and resellers, then use this data to manage their sales and financial reporting

I am not the expert in paid search marketing. You are. However my understanding of what is required includes the following main components. Tell me if I am missing anything or if there are things you cannot do, or do not recommend:

• Marketing Campaign/Offers – Develop multiple marketing campaign/offer ideas for consideration. Customer may choose one or more campaigns or to test them against each other to determine the best campaign moving forward.

• Keywords – Develop an initial set of keywords for the paid search marketing campaign. These words will take into consideration bid prices, available traffic and estimated click-through rates. Keywords will support the different campaigns being proposed.

• Ad Groups – Organize keywords into optimal ad groups in order to most easily manage these campaigns.

• Ad Copy – Develop one or more ad copy blocks for each campaign/offer option.

• Landing Pages – Develop and mock up one or more landing page design options per campaign for consideration. Develop and implement the landing page design(s) after selection by customer.

• Tracking Options – Recommend or provide a tracking solution for the campaign.

•Available Inventory Estimates – Provide a keywords summary that includes the total available inventory for the recommended keywords. In other words, if money were no object, how much could we spend? If there is limited inventory available, you will need to expand into additional targeted categories.

Once the campaign is developed I am also interested in your help deploying it and making it operational. I you like, please propose what it would take to do that - what budget you would recommend, what search engines you would use (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Business.com or Ask.com etc.)

We will also need ongoing management of the campaigns. What can you do for us there? Weekly Reviews - review campaigns weekly including copy testing results, landing page results, ad positions, and conversions by keyword.

Continuous Improvement - continually refine campaign, adjust bids, insert new ad copy, and test additional levers etc.

Ongoing Reporting – Provide weekly report of paid search performance. Weekly Review - Discuss the progress of the campaign and new testing ideas? Etc.

I am looking for a detailed response that enumerates each task (at least in the detail specified above) with an estimate of the effort it would take - (person as well as calendar days) as well as what you would charge

The project will be implemented in a phased manner with the sequence, schedule, details and budget for each phase being discussed with me and being authorized by me in advance.

I reserve the right to terminate, suspend, or change the project at any time and for any reason and will only be liable for actual hours and expenses incurred for authorized work through termination.

Initial ideas and research for campaigns should come from the customer as they are the ones that know their customers and how to peak their interest. Once the initial ideas are put forward, web specific research can be done on these concepts to tailor fit the ideas to a web based media campaign. Multiple campaigns should be utilized and implemented. Initially they should be run simultaneously to determine the effectiveness of each and give a focus for future campaigns to boost the customers ROI (Return on Investment). All campaigns should be continually analyzed and compared to each other so that the marketing can match, not follow, the trends being developed and evolved on the internet. Developing an initial group of keywords and phrases is the most important aspect of the marketing strategy. Without this the ROI will be minimal if any return is achieved at all. If ineffective keywords are used, the traffic generated will be of no value to the customer. I would recommend getting an initial group of at least 50 keywords and phrases that apply to the customers focus and developing a balance between CTR (Click-Through-Rate) and estimated effectiveness. Ad Copy should be created by ad specialists and fine-tuned to match focus keywords and phrases. Any fine-tuning to this copy should be done strictly to enhance the focus of the keywords and phrases. Developing Landing Pages for the campaign falls under the dominion of web design and can have an incredible range of costs. Consideration must be given to the duration of the campaign, the focus of the campaign, the message to be presented, and the image the customer wishes to present to the world. How much is spent on creating these mock pages is dependent on the relationship and trust of the customer and web designer. If a good level of communication exists, the mock pages can sometimes be by-passed saving the customer money. Unfortunately, there is a lot of hype and misinformation out there pertaining to web marketing. One of the foremost is the need for “Available Inventory Estimates”. ALL words are available if money is no option. This is however a complete waste of time as having 1,000,000 hits per day costs a lot of money in site maintenance and very little revenue is generated by visitors that ended up at your site while they were looking for something else. It is much more valuable to have the visitors that view the customer’s site desire what the customer is offering. To this end, only keywords and phrases that are going to provide a substantial ROI should be used. The amount they are used should be determined by the campaigns being run effectiveness they can achieve at any given time. This brings me to the single most valuable and underrated form of web marketing. Organic Optimization is very difficult to do effectively but is also the MOST effective marketing available on the internet. The vast majority of people utilizing search engines today trust the top unpaid spots in a search to be more accurately targeted to what they are looking for then the PPC (Pay Per Click) generated listings. Ignoring this aspect of web marketing can seriously lessen the ROI for the customer. I always recommend doing this first and, if there is additional money, PPC second. Organic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) entails developing a series of keywords and phrases that will attract qualified visitors. These keywords and phrases are put into the web pages in the places that search engines will look for and determine a valuation of the page. There are many elements of this form of marketing which determine the PR (page Ranking) and utilizing them to boost the PR is a science that can highly influence where your page is viewed when a specific keyword or phrase is searched for. The higher the ranking the more likely the visitor will click on the customer’s link. I would recommend doing the Organic SEO first which also includes developing an initial list of keywords and phrases, submission to the top search engines, building of initial one-way-links, and inclusion of tracking and analytics. This aspect of the job I would bid at $2000.00 for the initial work. Setting up the management and implementation of the PPC and determining the best CTR to invest in I would be willing to do for $500.00. Implementing and tailoring the campaigns I would start at $250.00/campaign. The more work involved in them the more I would charge. For $500.00/month I would monitor success of campaigns, keywords and phrases, continue building one-way-links, research the current effectiveness of the campaigns and how to improve them, provide weekly reports on the effectiveness of the present marketing, determine new possibilities for marketing (keywords, campaign suggestions and strategies) as I become aware of them. Creating additional campaigns will be an additional cost

Here is a response to each task you outlined: • Marketing Campaign/Offers – I would develop 3 final ideas over initial 2 week period for you to test in first efforts. They would generally be 1 page ideas with the idea of getting a response/customer for you... not several web pages per idea. These ideas would be copy only with recommendations for layout and design, so I would need to work with a designer (either yours or another) to do the final layouts. • Keywords – I did a quick search using google keyword tool for "saas"... this is some of what comes up, I could share the rest with you, it is too much to put here, but this will give you some scope of searches. Note: saas might mean something else to others "saas" november search estimate = 368,000 (note, this may not be the same saas term for your business... does that seem like a high number of searches to you?) "microsoft saas" november search estimate = 1,600 "saas software" november search estimate = 4,400 Develop an initial set of keywords for the paid search marketing campaign. I would do this using keyword tools... what are people searching for like the search results for "saas", "microsoft saas", etc... show above • Ad Groups – would do this according to what you are offering in your business... is is just basic "saas" or "saas software" • Ad Copy – would try 2-3 per ad group to start • Landing Pages – This is the same is marketing campaign to me above... wold develop the 3 pages (copy to be designed by your designer or another), but we cold discuss. • Tracking Options – would start simple. Use different landing page urls... and different phone numbers/email for searchers to respond to, but this would depend on how much business you expect. Do you expect 10 customers for year or 10,000? This number would ultimately determine tracking importance. •Available Inventory Estimates – You would pay per click. You are also sometime limited according to the type of account you have set up. You may need to open a business account with search engines like google to have a high spend limit... they will limit personal account until you prove you can pay. But you can see the search estimates for words like "saas software" above... 4,400... they give a cost per click estimate of $5.55 (could be lower/higher)... so that would be your maximum spend if you got 100% of the clicks, which likely will not happen... and these are just estimate. But I could easily show you the estimates for words that apply to your business. I would probably start with google as they are the majority of searches (though there may be reasons to use others) and later take any learning to other search engines. The $3,000 bid would be for the first 15 days and include the 3 landing pages and setting up the ppc search campaigns on google which you can do in 1 day to any existing pages you have to start to learn click rates and number of searches. We could discuss ongoing work, updating, etc... Thanks.
