Description

Link shortening
On a website users can upload a .doc or .odf document. The website/script will then analyse all links in the documents and replace them with shorter and nicer looking links links.

Scenario
User is writting an article with 20+ references but it looks awful because of the length of the links. User uploads his document to the service and all links in the document is then transfered into new links. eg. http://newlink.com/asfsd

Inspiration
http://tinyurl.com

My thoughts
Basically what i need is a automatic replace and find function, that takes all text starting with http and convert them to shorter links

What we have
- Server space
- html / css layout (all you need to focus on is the coding)
- existing script that generates random link extensions (eg. http://newlink.com/akjfh)

What I need from you
- Description of how you would do this
- Price
- Time

Basically, a PHP script would parse the file, taking any URLs and saving them to a new file with a randomly generated name at the base of your website (i.e. http://website.com/random). Inside that file would be either an HTML frame including the webpage, or could be set to redirect to the page itself. The script would then write the changes to the file, and voila, shortened URLs in the document. An alternate way to do it as compared to using the random naming system is to have a file created/used by the script, most likely stored in the base directory, which contains a list of numbers. The script determines which number was last used (the last one on the list), increments that (so 5 becomes 6), uses that as the file name (http://website.com/6) then writes 6 to the end of the file, so the next time that the script runs, it writes 7, instead. Either method would work.
