Description

PLEASE READ ALL THIS CAREFULLY (SO YOU DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!)

(1) Choose a subject (a programming language, a software tool) or something else that you’re an expert in (like Accounting, Bookkeeping, Patents, Trademarks, Viral Marketing, or SEO), that you’ve been using or doing for years and know inside-out.

(2) Make a 5-10 minute sample video of you teaching that subject (you must introduce yourself and mention GetaFreelancer.com so we know you really made the video). We need to experience the quality level you can achieve. (So please don’t just send videos you made in the past.) Ideally the demonstration would be on a Windows PC, but MAC is also acceptable.

(3) Good examples of teaching today, are www.Lynda.com (quality) or the “XXX for Dummies” books (quite entertaining) or www.thegnomonworkshop.com (great technical).

(4) You must teach about the very latest version of the subject you’ve chosen. (Like say you are teaching Photoshop, it must be the CS4 version.)

(5) Keep it funny / interesting / fast moving / “real”. (Please note, we don’t want it to be boring, or just a talking head, you are NOT a school teacher, nobody wants to go back to school, so just imagine you were teaching a friend, how would you teach them? Imagine the people are smart and just want to learn what actually matters. They want to get up to speed right away.)

(6) When you capture the computer screen (to demonstrate something), make sure the video is really clean and easy to read (zoomed in is usually best). (Instead of actually filming the screen, there are plenty video screen capture of tools out there to do this for you.)

(7) Think about what support materials you could supply to save a viewer time.

(8) Most importantly, have fun with it. (That does not mean to try to be a comedian, it just means it’s OK to be a “real” person, who has a personality, that’s taking the time to teach the viewer. So it’s OK to talk to the viewer as if they were there.)

(9) Send us a URL so we can watch your video.

(10) We pay between $100 and $350 depending on the subject and support materials supplied. We also pay for revisions (as the tools and languages invariably change.)

(11) A typical video we pay for (if you pass this demo phase) is around 60 minutes.

(12) The video must “feel” professional. If we get multiple videos for a certain subject, the most professional one, with the best content wins.

NOTE: It’s important the audio is high quality also, so we’d suggest you use a USB Podcasting quality microphone, and make sure there’s no background noise. It’s VERY important that your voice is very easy to understand (no heavy accent), and the video must be in English. Again, the more professional, the better.

NOTE: Anyone that appears in the video will need to sign a release.

NOTE: If you know someone that would be great at this, please send them a link.

NOTE: There are no pre-determined limits to the number of demo videos you can submit or the number of contracts you can win, and you don’t have to appear in every one. So this can have serious value if you produce multiple videos.

Looking forward to seeing how you meet this challenge.
