Description

I have an old server. Yesterday I wanted to change the OS. so I had to backup some data first. I backup them in this way:
1) for /home directory, I used "tar cvf homedir.tar /home". I got a homedir.tar file.
2) for /var/db/mysql directory, I used "tar cvf mysqldir.tar /var/db/mysql". I got a mysqldir.tar file.
3) I uploaded those 2 files to a Windows server via FTP.

Later, the server's OS changed from FreeBSD 6.1 to Ubuntu Linux 8.04. The harddisk was totally formatted and re-assigned.

Now, Via FTP from the Windows server I downloaded those 2 .tar files back. I tried "tar xvf homedir.tar" and "tar xvf mysqldir.tar". Both tar files can't be extracted. The error message is:

tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

A friend told me that probably was because of I used wrong FTP Mode to upload/download files. But no idea how to fix.

Help me, Please!

Thanks,
Jesse
