Description

We are a new, small, business based in United Arab Emirates.

We are not techies and we do NOT know Linux well enough. We have a Linux virtual server hosted in the UK. We have full root access by ssh etc. We also have Plesk 8 installed.

We have a freelance designer (from GAF) creating logo, and web template (for a web server). We are getting a freelance programmer to create a web site.

What we now need (ASAP) is freelance Linux Admin.

I have split what we need into three: initial, next and ongoing.


1) Initial work
We need a web server (basic company web site), plus mail, file server (samba), VPN and the normal user and admin tasks. Much of this is already working but needs checking and optimising (some may need reinstall - its OK if you want to start again with a clean install).

The following components (and possibly more) need setting up, configuring and security checking:

Linux - Debian
Users – create and allocate security permission, home directory etc.
Domains (we have 3 domains .com, .co.uk and .de)
Apache 2.x
Tomcat – a java menu on web server
MySQL
PHP
Mail server
Plesk 8
Samba – need to share a maximizer address book and other company files
VPN – need to access each other’s pc and server securely
FTP - standard stuff
Backup – Host provides a 5GB on second server need to automate process.

2) Next Work
We need a CMS server (probably Joomla), plus forum, plus ecommerce and other add-ons.

Again we need help install, configuring and security checking the following components:

Joomla
SugarCRM
Forum (no decision yet - any good php based open source one)
Other as required

3) Ongoing Work
Check the sever/reports on a regular basis (weekly?)
Setup server monitoring (internal and remote third-party service)
Respond to server alerts (quickly?)
Respond to our requests for change or help - as planned

All the above can and will be better defined.

We work UAE time so need someone with 5 hour overlap i.e. GMT +7 to GMT. (UK to India).

MUST have references for similar work?

MUST be LINUX God or a least close........

Must be able to communicate regularly by email AND mobilephone AND Skype)

MUST be realiable, accurate, methodical and tidy - we want the work documented....

MUST have good english.
