Hello,

I'm looking for someone with the expertise and experience needed to create a professional looking website in a short amount of time. A leading human rights organization at a major US law school, the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, is planning a two-day conference to take place on October 23-24, 2008 in Botswana. The conference, "Customary Law Revisited: The Role of Customary Law in the 21st Century," will include paper presentations and will also include working group discussions with a broad range of stakeholders, including, for example, traditional leaders, members of the judiciary, representatives of non-governmental organizations and other interested persons, on topics related to customary law.

At this stage in the conference planning, we had hoped to have a website designed and up (in at least basic form)for interested parties to learn more about the conference. The conference will have approximately 30 paper presenters. We would like a website that can serve as a general source of information for the public on the conference (the event will be free and open to the public, so we'll want to include directions, a map, etc... also, a lot of people will be coming from out of town/the country so we'll need to provide information on area hotel accommodations... people won't need to register for housing through our site, but we'd like to give them enough information so that they can secure it on their own).

The person who was originally selected to design the website is unable to complete the project, which is why this is a time sensitive project for the successful bidder. We would like to have something for the public by August 1, 2008. We'll need to modify the site in the future for occasional conference updates. After the conference itself, we'll be publishing a book and would like to use this same website as a platform for advertising it.

We DON'T want the website to look like this: www.customarylawrevisited.com

When you visit our site, you should see the Leitner Center's logo and the University of Botswana's logo (the conference is sponsored by the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, Fordham Law School, Fordham University and Department of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Botswana) Each of those icons can be links to their respective sites (www.leitnercenter.org and http://www.ub.bw/ ) I am attaching both logos. Unfortunately I only have an icon that's embedded in a word document for the University of Botswana.

The only interactive (not sure of the technical term) page in the site would be the registration section.

For each registrant, we want to collect the following:

Given Name
Surname
Title (Mr. Ms. Prof. Dr. Miss. etc)
Organization/Affiliation
Occupation/Title
Nationality
Mailing Address
Email Address

After someone registers (no cost), we want to send them an automatic email confirming their selections and providing follow up information (our website).

We'll want to know which panels they are registering for (probably a check the box type thing- see the draft program I attached to a previous email for dates/times/titles of panels), as well as whether they will be joining us for lunch/dinner.

Food restrictions?

I can provide you with more information at your request. I have already purchased a domain name/website host subscription.

Bottom line: an important (not weak), attractive (but not like we're trying to sell you something), professional (but not boring), pictures... maybe a map to show where all the conference participants will be coming from... we want the site to also be a way for people to connect after/before the conference itself (through email/contact information)...
