Description
We are creating a new website, which uses table-less XHTML/CSS. We have the basic templates done for the main page and for a generic interior page. All the menus etc. will be generated dynamically. We are currently working on some more templates for specific sections.Now we need to get content into the website. The content, about 100 pages, will come from three sources:
1. A version of the website that looks the same as the new one but which we created using HTML and tables (about 60 pages).
2. An even older version of the website, which also uses old HTML but looks different (about 30 pages).
3. Some standalone pages that are on a company Wiki (about 10 pages).
To start the project we will first give you a list of about 100 URLs from where you can get the content.
Your job will be to go through all of the URLs we give you and
a) In the source code, remove the main text section of the page (i.e. the unique content for that page, not the navigation, header or footer - typically this will be less than 400 words)
b) Convert the tags/styles used in this section to new tags/styles, if required (note: it is very important that you look at our templates and CSS and that you ask us about any tag that you aren't sure how to process).
c) When you have done this, enclose the newly marked-up text with a <div id="BColumn"></div> tags
d) Put the old URL at the top of the file and save as a text file with the original page name or similar.
Actually, this is mostly a very straightforward job. Usually it will just involve converting some <br> tags to <br /> tags and <class="heading1"> to <h1> tags etc.
But we have not gone through all of the pages yet to see if there are any unusual tags there, so it is very important that you report to us if you find any tags we have not discussed, so that we can tell you what to do.
I would prefer to work with someone who communicates regularly throughout the project. We will give you some samples to start with and we will answer all your questions until you are comfortable.
