Fix a VB6 exe that simply visits a web site hourly.I have a VB6 exe program that has a bug I need fixed. I also want to make some minor functional additions/changes. You may use our existing .exe file, or you may make one from scratch. I don’t expect this to be a major job for a knowledgeable programmer.
BASICS:
This .exe simply makes hourly visits a specific web site (URL). Upon the initial visit, the exe will locally post a 'success' or ‘failure’ message, play a tone, then <gracefully> close to repeat the process again in 60min (**settable**). No message posting or logging onto the visited URL is needed. Some parameters (tone, message verbiages, durations. etc) will be easily **settable** at the source code level for my easy changing if necessary in the future–
Locally, upon first execution of this .exe, it copies itself into the windows ‘startup’ folder – (startup folder location is **settable**). That will allow execution start on every new system ‘Startup’. If there is already a version in the startup folder, will remove/over-write the any existing resident. It will NOT put two or more copies/versions in the startup folder.
“THE BUG” – Our existing exe already has most of the features we want. It is a small routine… presently only 32K <assembled>.
When the bug occurs, it drains “CPU Usages” to appx 50% -seen in WTM (Windows Task Manager) and stops visiting the Web Site. To return it to normal operation, you must either stop/restart the process or do a PC reboot. We cannot exactly determine the cause, but it occurs regularly.
