Description

<<DESCRIPTION>>

I'm in immediate need of a Linux admin expert to debug/correct a DNS problem with my most recent domain.

<<ENVIRONMENT>>

The problem domain resides on my Godaddy Pre-configured Dedicated Linux Server with PLESK control panel. This server has an external Cisco PIX 501 firewall attached.

<<PROBLEM>>

5 days ago I created my 17th domain on my server. I setup my private nameservers exactly as my previous 16 working domains via PLESK. I also changed the nameservers for my new domain via Godaddy. After 5 days I am still being told that my website cannot be found when I type-in the url. That is how I know I have a configuration problem.

I ran several online DNS checkers and I get the following messages (domain name & IP changed for this example):

====================================================================================================
Error fetching SOA from ns1.my17thdomain.com [??.???.??.??1], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline.
Error fetching SOA from ns2.my17thdomain.com [??.???.??.??2], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline.
0 server(s) are alive
No DNS servers alive, tests stopped

Your nameserver did not respond authoritatively. This is a problem and needs to be addressed.

None of name servers return correct information about this domain name, unable to perform DNS tests
====================================================================================================

As I said, my DNS records are setup exactly as my previous 16 working ones, but something here is wrong.

<<MY ATTEMPTS TO FIX PROBLEM>>

I deleted and re-created the domain hoping that the PLESK would recreate the DNS Zone. This did no good.

<<PRECONFIGURED SERVER SPECS>>

Operating System:
Linux Fedora Core 7

OS Kernel:
Linux kernel 2.6

Remote Access Services:
OpenSSH 4.5p1

Email Services:
Sendmail 8.14.1

Development Languages/Environments:
GCC (C, C++, Objc, GCJ) 4.1.2
Perl 5.8.8
PHP 5.2.4

Database and Directory Services:
MySQL 5.0.45

DNS Services
BIND 9.4.2:

Web Servers and Components:
Apache 2.0
Mod_ssl 2.2.6
Mod_perl 2.0.3
Mod_python 3.1

The server has two IPs. These IPs are used for setting up the DNS.

<<WHAT YOU ARE BIDDING ON>>

1. Figuring out what is wrong with the DNS setup on my 17th domain and making the necessary corrections. You will be given access to the server.
2. When finished, my domain should be reachable when keying-in the URL in a browser.
3. When finished, you send me the cause of the problem and what you did to fix the problem.

<<PAYMENT>>

- Payment will be made only via PayPal, unless we work something else out. (Like paypal isn’t available etc). We can use Escrow if you'd like.

<<HOW TO BID>>

Due to people bidding without reading the entire project requirements, you MUST include in your comment or PM the text "I Like Pretty Flowers". I will ignore all bids that do not include this text ... I don't care how many good reviews you have if you can't follow this simple bidding request.

Thank you.

I like pretty flowers. I will use the ssh connection to estalish local DNS resolutions are working for the domain. secondly, confirm that name resolution requests are being passed through the pix firewall correctly. once these two things are happening, you should be good to go. cheers jonathan Alpine Software
