Ex bike mechanic, skilled cyclist, acrobat and general bike tomfoolery wants to write about the stuff. Based In New Zealand, with access to some of the best mountain bike scenery in the world, I can provide seriously good content with accompanying photos. Below is a sample of work from a Guitar magazine project. Ryan Prebble has been developing a solid presence within the NZ music scene since his first real gig at Tillermans, Invercargill in 2003. Three time veteran of European tours with The Black Seeds, and fundamental component of Wellington based psychedelic groove ensemble Spartacus R, Prebble took the time to discuss his guitar playing, and the influences and inspirations he has encountered on both local and foreign shores. The experimental guitar sound that drifts amidst the hypnotic rhythms of Spartacus R were first introduced to Ryan through the work of Radiohead guitar masters Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien. Musically involved from a young age, and passionately involved with creation of new sound, Prebble began experimenting with his own style in response to the outward and interesting new directions that were being illumined. Playing since the age of 10, Prebble is no stranger to the fretboard. Starting out by busking, booking, and more importantly playing gigs, Prebble was introduced to and influenced by the powerfully diverse range of local talent that has helped shape many top New Zealand acts. Describing the music coming out of NZ as essentially 'genreless', and of an international standard, seems a remarkably insightful view. In Europe when interviewed, Prebble looked forward to his return to Aotearoa and the exceptional talent available here. The European tours have introduced Ryan to some interesting people, providing access to an amazing range of tools, toys and technical equipment, but the busy tour schedule has limited the exposure to the unique talent present within each locality. Great music exists everywhere. Skilled guitarists can lurk in the smokiest of bars, and Prebble acknowledges that it takes time to find these inspirational musicians. A little sad that these musicians cannot always be found, due to worldly limitations, Ryan also expressed great joy at being able to share his passion for music on a global stage. Exposure to this global audience has developed the awareness and appreciation for the easily accessible talent within NZ. Much of the creative output in Aoteaora does not readily fall into a pigeon hole, while still being crafted to standard that competes with the biggest and best international acts, able to hold its own in front of the critical masses of Europe. Hard work, long hours, and a devotion to his life's love have taken Ryan around the world, giving an opportunity to evolve his guitar style. Prebble looks forward to his return to the Antipodes, brimming with eager anticipation of the new music crafted with exceptional skill by the highly talented locals.
