Description

I am looking for an application which does a polling on specific network ports on various defined hosts. I support multiple applications which connect to different network ports on different hosts. I am not looking for a ICMP polling application. The application will need to telnet to confirm if the connection is alive or dead. If the connection is dead an email will need to be sent out with details of the connection that is down. The gui should have a frontend with a status indication. Screenshots must be provided for considerations.

The polling interval needs to be optimized.. every 3 minutes to every 10 minutes.

Must:
** Scripts should be able to run on Windows or Linux
** Email for alerts

I am open to suggestions if the GUI is not possible.

I can setup nagios for you (http://www.nagios.org), it has all you want and more. There are general check_tcp and check_udp plugins and ones for specific types of services. I'll add one host with template myself and leave docs on how to add more if/when you need. And there are several simpler programs available (I don't remember all their names, but have them on my dev system) that would also do for just checking ports and emailing if error.

I can setup and configure Zabbix for you (http://www.zabbix.org/). Zabbix is a powerful tool for network services monitoring with nice Web interface (see http://www.zabbix.com/screenshots.php).

Hi, a tool such as the one you describe is already available as a package called "Nagios". I have been using this tool for years on my own server cluster running multiple different services, and would easily be able to set it up for you.

There is no need to develop a tool for this. Nagios is the industry standard in GPL monitoring tools. I've configured this for many enterprise class companies, and can do it in a couple hours. It does what you want out of the box.
