If you are wiling to base your system around an open source package, there is an Java chat package which we have installed before. I would have to look at it a bit to see what it would take to add web cameras. We would have to discuss what sorts of cameras to use. Most of the web cameras I have used send .jpg images which are relatively large. If you want some other type of video encoding, we would have to agree on a standard because changing video formats is a lot of programming and a lot of burden on the server. It is possible to change the sie of the images by changing the size of the playback system, but that would not reduce bandwidth unless the server changed the size of the image. That sort of reformatting takes a lot of bandwidth as I said. We would have to discuss the applicatin in detail to make sure that we did exactly what you want. That said, let me tell you a bit about us. Our team has written tens of thousands of lines of Java over the past 12 years. I personally have been earning a living writing software since 1964. I have had over 60 papers published in different technical and news magazines; I can send you a list. My book, "What Every Engineer Should Know About Artificial Intelligence" was published by the MIT Press. This program uses Java to determine the shortest routes in a complicated building. You don't know the names of any of the rooms, so click right on a room and ask that the room be added to the route. You can also add a new destination or change an existing destination. You can type Fly Gallery or Carpentry Shop in the destination name to go to other floors. You can pan, scroll, and zoom in the map using the controls in the upper right of the map.
