Description

Hello,

We need to map and keep in sync a remote DB2 database on AS/400 with an internal database (that has jet to be created). When a record is added edited or deleted on the remote database, the internal database must be kept in constant sync. On the remote DB there are more or less 20 tables with 200 fields (20-30 thousand records).

It will just need to go one way so you don't need to refresh the remote database in case the internal DB is modified.

For the internal database I would suggest Postgres as cost effective solution, but is absolutely not a constrain and any suggestion is welcome.

There are many ways to do this (via transaction logs, or creating a small daemon etc.) you can use a Windows environment (no vb6 just dot net for visual studio solutions) or a *nix environment.
Just remember that we need something that is completely reliable.

I attached two files to give you a general overview of the system environment and a simpler one of what the system has to do. The part that needs to be developed is the orange box.

For any further info you might need just ask me in PM

Thanks for your interest in our project

Hello. We have done similar idea for SQL Server database with C#.Net (Visual Studio 1.1 and may be easy to transfer to VS.Net 2.0 C#). It worked with SQL Server databases for eCommerce application to synchronize the office db and website db in two ways. Single way synchronization is also possible. It can support also difference between timezones of remote and local db. We can rewrite the application and do it completely independant. But it synchronizes as a snapshot - copies all records from one to another record if they differ and must have fields modified/created datetime stamp updated in your application. An older VB application that can be transferred to VB.Net does this without need of support for modified/created. All tables must have PK's. Contact me on PMB to discuss this. Price may change.

I have been working on similar application. Althoug it was MS SQL master DB and few handheld PDA'as with local DB on each. Relication operated bidirectionally. Essential idea was auxiliary table on master DB, in which were logged changes of each master table (tablename and operation performed -Insert,Update or Delete). Such logging was performed by trigger on each master table. Then slave databases through TCP/IP periodically collected info from above mentioned aux. table and were making corresponding changes locally. But I expect budget not less than 400$.

wrote several scripts for the same sort of task. definitely not a complicated one and ofcourse reliability would be my primary concern always. regards, RaviGoru
