Description: This job has two aspects, but both are very simple for a person who has the know-how and probably only presents a couple of hours work at most for the right programmer.

I run this site: http://www.stickscene.com

I need two things added:

A RSS feed
An easy to use mailing list for automatic daily/weekly updates.

The RSS feed will be generated automatically whenever a puzzle is added to the site. The RSS feed will create:

A title: StickScene.com Puzzle [*number*]
A link to the puzzle page
The RSS 'description' and 'content encoded' is the thumbnail of the puzzle-image and a text link to it, for example: [a href="http://www.stickscene.com/index.php?puzznum=153"][img src="http://www.stickscene.com/puzzles/thumbs/p_214913_150506.jpg"][br /]Click here to play![/a] (with angle brackets, not square brackets, obviously)

I think that if the image is put into the RSS code like that then it will show up in compatible RSS readers. It will also mean that people can syndicate my puzzles visually onto their site.

So, that's pretty easy.

Next up, the mailing list:

Currently there is a newsletter function, but I'd like to change the way it works, so you will be starting mostly from scratch (not working with someone else's code). The existing code you'll have to work with is in the admin section of the site and is pretty easy stuff.

I would like the newsletter to be listed below the 'play previous/play next' links on the left of the page main. It would consist of a box for the email address and a 'join newsletter' button, there will also be a small 'leave newsletter' button to automatically disable a person's listing. When people click the 'join newsletter' button they will be sent to a new page (in the usual StickScene layout) where they have two options, either to join a weekly or daily newsletter. Once they have chosen then a confirmation email will be sent (this will have a copy-and-paste URL link, as well as an HTML one, for people who might have HTML turned off in their email browser). Once the person clicks the link in the email then they are subscribed to the list that they have chosen.

The newsletter will be automatically generated and sent without me having to do anything, listing the number and a link to new puzzles added since the previous newsletter, both on daily and a weekly basis, depending on the choice of the user. At the bottom of the email will be instructions on how to visit the site and change/remove their details from the list.

In the Admin section of the site, the newsletter page will allow me to write messages that are stored and automatically added on to the top of the next weekly and daily newsletter. If the person is subscribing to the newsletter weekly, or if I put more than one message in the queue per day, then the messages will be time and date stamped in the newsletter to say when they were written. If there is only one message then this won't happen.

I need this done soon. I could do it myself, but I've got other clients of my own to be looking after, so you are being paid to get this job done fast and efficiently.

You will get the job if:

You can write in good/reasonable English (communication and understandning is important)
Your code is always commented well (I may have to alter it in the future and so I need to be able to understand what you've done)
You can do the work within 24-48 hours of my hiring you
You give a reasonable quote for the job

If you have a good rating already on this site then that will help.

Don't bother replying if you are only going to say 'I can do this'!
