| Description: |
The main website that inspires the basic look is citytherapy, yet for this I intend to centralise all things tourist about Africa and so much more. I seek someone who is able to visualise what professional African travel site would look like and impliment it, without the usual bias towards the poverty etc. This is a travel site driven by a social network to enable people to interact and talk to each other and add content to the site. I would like to work with a team that have a feel for “3rd world” travel to design and implement the site because they also know what concerns and issues are important for travellers in this region , ranging from safety, banking, accommodation, navigating Africa, and finding the best possible deals and access to authentic African experiences.
In addition the site will also have functionality for NGOs, volunteers, internships and employment opportunities in Africa and for such groups to interact and network
So evidently I would like to work with a great and very creative team of people.
The site is inspired by citytherapy ( it can function as the basic clone with more functionalities added and some removed) travelbuddy, Kayak, Craigslist timesonline.co.uk
I would also require a logo to go with the site and it should be leaning more towards the new web 2.0 versions of logos.
Just like city therapy ( all these should have the facility for maps API, using a method similar to trulia.com)
1) Country >> Culture/arts
Tours (Sites and Scenes) >> City breaks Day tours Self drive tours (create) Adventure tours
Food & Drink >>hotels and restaurants
Music & Nightlife
Outdoors
Shopping
Sports
Business (business intelligence)
NGO, Volunteer and Aid
Jobs in Africa.
Each of these events or places has a link to local hotels and travel planners within area and various related Ads and sponsorships (so space should be created for these)
2) Country Specific Pages with Blog area and all kinds of relevant information (kinda like mixx, perhaps a widget from there with regional info)
Country specific info
- Current situation from all news sites. - Weather and clothing guide - Security - Health etc (preparation) - NGO etc information - Widgets with country specific and relevant information. - Visa requirements - |Major Tourist areas.
3) Connect with locals or other travellers or people from your country residing in the area.
4) Travel and airline booking service similar to Yatra and kayak. Only lite versions.
5) e-commerce store to sell African artefacts , art etc and souvenirs and stuff people need for travel.
6) throughout the site there should be set areas for google ads and other revenue generating schemes.
Target Audience Mostly western travellers and Chinese who are planning on travelling to Africa, at the start I would like a special focus on South-Africa and then add more content. So SA can be a test country to see if it will work well ( checking bugs etc)
REQUIREMENTS
I want a dedicated team capable of having this site up and running in a very short space of time. I have the domain name www.iheartafrica.com. So I will also require hosting help and extensive manuals on how to manage the site , edit etc.
I also would like the whole thing set-up and implemented and easily manageable.
This has the possibility to be a long term relationship and so I would like a dedicated team.
I want the whole thing set-up including the hosting and everything, basically a fully functional site in the shortest period possible
This is a site that is more geared towards philanthropy so it would be an added advantage to work with people who have a feel for how this site can interact with all kinds of people, and how it can be monetized as well.
Only serious bidders who have an excellent track record.
This website is being used as a template for other ventures to help spread knowledge about such regions etc and could lead to more projects if done properly.
PS. This a a possibly huge project where I hope to integrate all many aspects (i.e revenue generating projects related to Africa)
The first stage is obviously the travel and tourism part.

IHeartAfrica.com
An African tourism site, that functions like a social network. Similar to the way City Therapy operates but with much more functionality and relevance to African Travel
Firstly -A logo that will mimic IheartAfrica in a very modern take and also show the genuine love for Africa. It is should be fresh and not like the ones out there that refer to travel in Africa. It should embody all things web 2.0 and what a travel site/ social network should look like in this modern age.
Unlike other travel sites, the design and look should be clean and representative of the look of very modern sites and not the typical look know to African tourism sites, I need a breath of fresh air when it comes to the look.
The travelers I am catering to are more than just safari travelers but “new luxury” people who go to Africa to experience other things e.g Ugandan coffee, or sky diving on the Victoria falls. Of course I also would like to cater to all kinds of travelers as well.
Sections
1. The main part consists of sections under which the people enter their information is similar to those offered by citytherapy.com, go2africa, African traveler and all similar sites.
I would like to mention once again that city therapy and the way in which people can recommend and rank places is very important here, instead of having the expert with packaged deal I would like to have travelers create their own travel package, and the webpage should have the facilities for them to find out everything about the places they want to visit and all other attractions within reach.
This part is linked to services such as google maps (trulia.com) the interactivity allowed by this area should make area for all provisions/concerns of the traveler in the region e.g. safety, accommodation, flights( similar to Kayak, Yatra etc), customizable travel (similar to city therapy that can be printed out as a trip planner and a “dashboard with all relevant information for the travel such as
- Current situation from all news sites. - Weather and clothing guide - Security - Health etc (preparation) - NGO etc information - Widgets with country specific and relevant information. - Visa requirements - Major Tourist areas.
-the first countries to be the focus are South Africa, Egypt etc. Top destinations is Africa first.
- with regards to the possibility for widgets to travel sites for tickets and travel deals to destinations of interest.
• An e-commerce called “ Ubuntu-Store” that will sell all kinds of African memorabilia, gifts and souvenirs (this part in the future may allow users to upload and sell their art and wares…i.e the functionality can be similar to that of sidereel allowing African galleries etc to create pages with their services and products sold through our e-commerce portal)
• Forum platform called “dashboard” similar to Craiglist for general services.
• Possible added functionality that will serve as a social network for NGOs, Volunteers, and all other kinds of philanthropy projects.
Requirements
-A logo that will mimic IheartAfrica in a very modern take and also show the genuine love fore Africa.
-a very clean interface, driven by the recent web 2.0 design ( in other words not the stereotypical nature driven look, though I am not ruling out throwing in some pictures of nature and beautiful people)
- I would like backend design and all features to be easily customizable by a single person, adding pictures, content and managing accounts. This is a company so the site should reflect all aspects of business such as rights to privacy etc
- I will also require a manual for using /updating features in the site because it is being created for an African company that may have less technical competencies. Information and assistance in locating a host, launching the site, updating, admin etc. The site should be easy to manage, backend access ..Joomla ???
- There should be provisions on most of the pages (not the index) for strategically placed google ads and other revenue generating schemes (They should not be invasive to the users)
- Complete SEO work to appear on front page on all aspect relating to tourism, Africa, world cup, safari etc.
Target Audience
Mostly western travellers and Chinese who are planning on travelling to Africa.
