Description:	This project is a web application that will interface with our proprietary order entry system to provide our clients' customers with order information online. Our system is written in VB6 and runs on mostly Netware or Windows servers in our clients plants. We will be writing all of the 'back end' procedures that do the data access. Although I am open to suggestions from the expert . . . this is how I see it working: 1 - YOU would design a simple web interface for customers to log on. This would need to use CSS so that we can change the fonts and colors to blend in with the client's web site. 2 - Once the client logged in, a 'request' that contains a customer's account number would be sent from the application or script on the web server (we'll call this the 'WEB APP' from now on) TO a dedicated XP or Vista computer at the client's plant and attached to the network (we'll call this computer 'PLANT PC' from now on). 3 - We will have a program running at all times on the 'PLANT PC' and upon receipt of this 'request', our program would retrieve the applicable data for the account and return it (either as data in rows/columns to be inserted into a grid OR already formatted as HTML output that can be displayed on the screen. 4 - There would be several options for other data on a menu or using links. If the user selected one of these, that 'request' would be sent to the 'PLANT PC' which would return the output to display either in data, HTML, or possibly PDF if it is something they need to save to their hard drive. Keep the following in mind: 1 - Our programs and the data access are complicated and must be done locally by our programmers that have knowlesge of the system but not much about web programming. It will not work to have the web application access the data directly. 2 - We will need YOU to provide the guidance / technology for the communication between the web application and the PLANT PC. One thought was for the web application to write a simple text file to a folder on the PLANT PC and the program (which will be running 24/7) would poll that folder for the text file and then read the 'request' from it - but I am open to a more advanced and safe idea! 3 - YOU would need to provide us with code or guidelines for returning the output. It would be easiest & best for us if we return the output formatted as HTML or PDF to be displayed in a new window . . . but perhaps an inline frame or something similar would work as well.
