Description

To develop for us a PHP script (preferred) or Java or Perl code to
crop and concatenate multiple WORD files in a specified order into
a single WORD file. Each WORD document may contain equations/math expressions and graphics, in addition to text. The code is required to run on a Mac OSX Server.

Our problem:
We are creating a large database of online assessment questions
for secondary school math. In the past, we have done this with
image files. Now, we want to give our teachers the option to
alter/edit the questions, equations, and images used in each
question. However, when we have, say 4 such questions selected
to be assigned and printed as a quiz on paper, each question
takes up a whole WORD page so we end up with 4 pages with a lot
of unnecessary blanks when they can all fit into a single WORD page.

The solution:
The solution should also be able to determine whether each question can fit into the previous page, and if not, to reallocate the whole question to the subsequent page. The PHP script or Java code needs to run on our Mac OSX Server. The number and names of the multiple WORD files to be merged needs to be input variables for the program.
And because each teacher will have his/her own user account and personal folder/directory, the directory path must also be an input parameter (for displaying, selecting, sorting, editing, and saving the WORD documents).
