Description:	Stevenyilin.com – Version 2 Project Briefing Hi! My name is Steven, I am a young startup photographer looking for a flash designer who can program my new photography site using flash, actionscript and php. The new layout of my site ist held very simple and effective, similar to marcuspummer.com, georgwendt.com and weinper.at except that it doesnt use any thumbnails which in my view will only distract the user. I come from a HCI and screen design background myself so I ve already done 90% of the layout. The nifty bit is were the actionscript and php programming comes in. The visible specs of the layout to start with (see .png or .psd mockup layout): 1. This flashsite is designed for 1024x768 2. The man page has my logo at top right. A main content frame of width 800 and height max 600 pixels. 3. The captions (if any included) approx 9 pixels underneath the frame. 4. 12 pixels top right of content frame are 3 main nodes: /portfolio and /personal work and /content. The former two are photo galleries. On mouseover they will turn grey and on clicking they will expand into subnodes (gallery names). 5. The site has two minor variations – for JPG galleries theres are navigational buttons: prev start/stop and next. For flash and quicktime movies there are no nav buttons. Intead theres an start/pause toggle button with an optional time/preloader-line. What the end product should be able to do: 1. Dynamic gallery. On loading the site runs a script that checks the respective root folder for media content galleries that are organised in folders. I will be able to update the website by simply uploading folders into a „/content/“ folder. Main menu management (i.e. porfolio, personal work, contact, etc.) ∑ Add/Remove/Rename section ∑ Change order of the section in the main menu ∑ All main menu nodes expand into a collection of subnodes except „contact“. We will refer to these sublevel nodes as „galleries“. On clicking the galleries there are 4 types of media which can be loaded within the 800x600 content frame. Listed below there the different types of media and their respective differences as of navigational elements on the interface. 1. JPGs ---> prev stop & next navigational buttons. Download picture button, slide interval indicator and number of slide displayed as a fraction. Browsing possible by clicking directly on picture. Example: http://kniat.de 2. Quicktime movie --> start/pause and download movie button. Optional timeline and preloading indicator. Example: http://www.laurengreenfield.com/index.php?p=CCLHWY93 3. Swf. files --> start/pause and download movie button. Optional timeline and preloading indicator. Example: http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/essays/warsanderson.aspx 4. Html file --> use as example the "download" section of stevenyilin.com. I will be able to control certain properties of the galleries by entering parameters into a html CMS. Parameters are (but should be expandable for future purposes): For all galleries (Gallery level management): * Gallery name * Add/Remove/Rename gallery * Move gallery into a different section in main menu. *Change order of appearance in gallery list. *mp3 upload (some galleries have a background music loop constantly running independant of the media it contains. Audio file should preload until it streams). * Autoplay Yes/No (Default is yes‡ play whatever is playable once and stop). For JPG content: * Add/Remove/Replace picture. * Move picture to another gallery (not really necessary, it will only make the cms overcomplicated). * Change order of appearance within its gallery * Autoplay Yes/No (Default is yes‡ Gallery plays through all pictures ONCE only. At the same time the user should be able to click the stop/next button in case he gets annoyed). * Speed of the slideshow – adustable as 1/10th of a second. Ie. A number 20 is 2 seconds interval between two JPGs. * Speed of alpha channel change –high (andreashofer.com), medium (marcuspummer.com), slow (stevenyilin.com ‡flashfun ‡ „time passes so fast“) * Caption (Multiple lines possible) * Alighment (Default is Top Left for all pictures!) For .swf content: * Add/Remove/Replace (Every gallery need only load one single file. Hence this could actually be done at gallery management) * Optional timeline and preloading indicator (Yes/No). * Caption (Multiple lines possible) * Alighment (Default is middle center for all movies!) * Start play at 5 seconds and stop 5 before end so that a copyright mark at beginning and end ist only seen when downloaded to desktop. For quicktime content: * Add/Remove/Replace quicktime video (Every gallery need only load one single file. Hence this could actually be done at gallery management) * Optional timeline and preloading indicator (Yes/No). * Caption (Multiple lines possible) * Alignment (Default is middle center for all video!) * Start play at 5 seconds and stop 5 before end so that a copyright mark at beginning and end ist only seen when downloaded to desktop. For html content: * Add/Remove/Replace (Every gallery need only load one single file. Hence this could actually be done at gallery management) * Load as pop-up (Yes/No ‡ Default is Yes) So far thats the most important. What i might not yet have mentioned or is not visible on my mockup layout: * Top level node intro page – this should be editable just like any of the 4 mentioned media. This is necessary because otherwise the page with be blank once the content frame loads for the first time. * A „on/off“ switch for the audio. * a simple intro screen that displays the humvee photo, my logo and a flash loading bar with words saying „ detecting flash... loading media.. loading audio, etc“ * A flash contact page similar to the current one on stevenyilin.com except that subject line is free to chose. * All source files are handed over at end of project. Alright, that pretty as clear as I can put my vision in words for now. Keep the issue of „Gulf of entropy“ in mind. No matter how much detail I go into here there will always be certain things which have to be tested and refined.
