Description: Members area on a Joomla Website.

I recently developed a website for an organisation with approx 8000 members, the website currently employs Joomla as its CMS

Requirement:
To integrate a new members area into the website.

Perhaps creating two versions of the website:

1.The main website ( main website available for everyone to view )
2.Members area ( only members of the organisation have access to this area through a login area ).

With the following standard features:
Members are invited to register on the site to gain access the members area.
Accounts are controlled online by a site administrator.

Is it possible to integrate such a functionality within Joomla?

If so please provide details and an estimate on timeframe and costings.

Only people with lots of experience with Joomla need reply.
