Description

The Global Vote (www.theglobalvote.org), a non-profit project based in the US and the Netherlands, is seeking an experienced software developer/web-designer to create a new feature for our website.

One of the main purposes of our site is for members to vote on bi-weekly resolutions relating to current international issues that we post, and then for us to present that data in revelatory and intuitive ways to our members and visitors. To this end, we would like to add a new (probably Flash) feature to our site that will have elements from The Economist’s World Electoral College map (http://www.economist.com/Vote2008/) and a similar electoral map on Iftheworldcouldvote.com (http://www.iftheworldcouldvote.com/results). We specifically want to emulate the interactive nature of The Economist’s map, where the rest of the world’s continents fade out when you mouse-over the country, and the gradated color scheme of the iftheworldcouldvote.com’s map, along with the data that pops up when you mouse-over the countries on their map, and the tables below the map.

This feature must be designed to be imported into the html for currently-in-development version 2 of our site, without disrupting our other development team. In other words, it should be a fully functioning module. Also, it should have a CMS so that the staff-admins of The GlobalVote have the power to input the data of new resolutions every two weeks, thus generating a new map with charts that presents the results of the latest vote, without the need for developer assistance.

If you are interested in this assignment, please send me a SHORT message via PMB in which you briefly discuss the following:
1.Your opinion about idea: any ideas about how to make it more robust, how plausible you find this strategy, or anything else you think is relevant
2.Your plan of action- how would you approach this assignment in terms of emulating the two models mentioned and implement the feature in the manner described above
3.Your relevant experience, education, and links to past projects/references
