Description

The project should be a java software that merge 2 big PDF files into one in memory efficient way.
The software should overcome/avoid a Java OutOfMemoryError error when this process occurs or when it repeats multiple time.

There is an advantage of using iText project to merge the files, but it's not a must.

Hint:
Currently I use the following code:
http://java-x.blogspot.com/2006/11/merge-pdf-files-with-itext.html
Which throws a Java OutOfMemoryError exception on files greater than 20M.

iText provides several ways to merge PDF files. When you merge big files you should not dealing on page level, which provides the functionality modify the detailed contents on each page. This will consume huge amount of memory. You can try to merge the big PDF files on document level; the total memory consumption will be smaller compare to the first solution. I have merged two 40M PDF files successfully into one 80 M PDF in my previous project with default java VM memory size. But I have not tested for sizes over 50M PDF files. To increase the VM memory can avoid this exception if it is allowed. I can provide FREE assistance on this issue if you are interested.
