Description

We are designing a product that will include a stainless steel cylindrical pressure tank of 3L capacity which will store hot water at 110 (one hundred and ten) degrees C under mains water pressure. The tank will be 30cm tall. Radius to be calculated. The tank needs connections for 10mm hot and cold inlet/outlet connections via flexible braided hoses. The hot one at least (and probably both) must be towards the top of the tank.

The top of the tank must provide have access to a flanged electric heating element so that it can be replaced. This means it can't be buried under fixed insulation. Our main criteria are:

- Insulation losses should be very (very !) low. Our absolute maximum is 10W, but we'd like less.
- Wall thickness should be thin, so the final product is not too bulky
- Assembly should be easy, with access to the element.

Costs matter, but performance is the key. The tank will be housed in an outer case, which could be plastic or metal. The insulation would be between the tank and the case. The finish of the outer cover could be shiny if this would make a significant difference to radiation. Please consider all thermal aspects of the design in your review. There could be more than one material chosen (eg one insulation best for the tank, something to go on the element flange, something else for the pipes etc).

What we want is a brief review of the available options and a more detailed solution for the favoured material(s). You should consider aerogel materials (http://www.aerogel.com/) or http://www.cabot-corp.com/ but there may be other even better materials out there we are uaware of. Vacuum solutions are not an option for patent reasons.
