I Have heard in my time how health care for the elderly has gone down the tubes. Yet to my knowledge the simple fact of allowing people to live with dignity and respect, were always the main ingredients in Elderly care. This was the facts for my mother. For over 30 years she has done this job of taking care of the elderly of her community some came from poor back grounds and others from rich. Either way they were always treated like a welcomed family member. We shared birthdays and help them cope with their stress. We all acted as a kind ear a gentle pat on the back or a lively spirit to show them there was still life to live. There are too many names to mention, but each had their own way about them and through constant communication of their needs and wants. We learned to live with each other. Some times There would be turmoil but in the end we looked to each other to guide us through and hold close to the fact we were all people that needed each other and with that mutual respect we pushed onward. Each of them inhabiting our lives, made me draw from a spectrum of experiences I could have never been offered traditionally. We lived with these people, cried with them and laughed but through it all we did it together. The best lesson my mom ever taught me was that everyone needed and dissevered dignity, respect and love through life’s ups and down. We were just boats passing on the sea of life.
