Renting a home or apartment and staying with family temporarily often holds people back from designing a beautiful or useful garden. A garden is usually a permanent fixture, so anyone who has temporary living arrangements do not want to put in the money and time for a garden. You do not have to spend a lot of time or money to have a beautiful and useful garden. There are many tips and tricks for cheap and easy gardening that you may have never thought of.
Whether it is flowers or vegetables, plants are a great addition to any environment. But buying seedlings and plants can be expensive. Filling a vegetable garden with tomato plants, zucchini and squash, lettuce, beans and peppers tend to be expensive, especially if you purchase young plants in spring at your local gardening or home improvement store. It is not uncommon to spend $50 - $100 for a small to medium size vegetable and herb garden. If you plan to move before harvesting season, all this money goes down the drain.
If there is a strong possibility that you will be moving within the growing season, try growing herbs in containers. Herbs can be grown indoors in windowsills or outdoors in pots. Paint the pots in pretty colors and designs, or add decorative accents to them to liven up a dull patio or porch. Your herb garden is also portable so you can take it with you when you move.
For flowers, there are many different solutions. You can beautify your environment with ready potted plants. These are slightly more expensive than young plants at the local home improvement store or nursery, but they can satisfy a gardener's heart.
You could also plant inexpensive seeds either in the ground or in containers without breaking your budget. You can enjoy the color and fragrance of flowers even though you may move to another location. Again, if you plant the seeds in containers, your flower garden is completely portable and can move along with you.
Seeds can also be bought in a grow mixture similar to lawn patching. Just spread the material filled with seeds over the area you want to grow the flowers, water regularly and it will soon sprout into a bed of beautiful flowers.
Another inexpensive method is to use birdseed in your garden. When you consider that a five pound bag of birdseed only costs a few dollars, this method saves you money. This might be the way to go for temporary housing.
As you can see you don't have to forego having a garden just because you're moving soon. These solutions and many others not mentioned here give you the opportunity to find creative methods of having a wonderful garden that is easy, economical and portable.
