Written by GhstL8y ~ March 19, 2008 We've all heard of people getting phone calls from dead loved ones, but did you ever think you could actually place a call TO them? It's not all that far fetched, and has been in the works for a very, very long time. Thomas Edison, yes, the Thomas Edison, held 1093 patents including the light bulb. Edison believed that man's intelligence remained beyond his physical being and he wanted to create a device to not only prove his theory, but also to actually communicate with those who have passed on. The October, 1920 issue of American Magazine included an article that Edison was working on a machine that would allow him to talk with the dead. He is quoted in the article as saying, "... it is possible to construct an apparatus which will be so delicate that if there are personalities in another existence who wish to get in touch with us... this apparatus will at least give them a better opportunity." Unfortunately Mr. Edison died before he was able to perfect such a machine. More recently, a man named Frank Sumption claims to have achieved what Edison could not - maybe even with the help of the spirit of Thomas Edison himself. This machine is being called the 'Telephone to the Dead' or the 'Frank Box' and is operated by Christopher Moon, paranormal investigator and owner/editor of Haunted Times Magazine. According to Moon, Edison regularly contacts him through the machine and has told him that there are only about 30 souls with the ability to use this machine. Whether these other 29 souls are living or dead, I do not know. As an investigator, my first reaction to this Telephone to the Dead was, "Yeah, right!" (sarcasm intended) So I had to do some research and see if I could find anything to change my mind. I found it. Maybe you will, too. I began at the home page of Haunted Times Magazine. A short way down the page is a banner for the phone, which I clicked on and after reading the claims and seemingly absurd disclaimer, I was even more convinced this was a fraudulent, money making scheme. You can find the link to this page at the bottom of this article. My next obvious step was to Google "Chris Moon" and "fraud". I got nothing! I couldn't find one blog, article, even skeptic who would say such a thing. I'm not saying that nobody has tried to debunk it or speak out against the phone, but I could not find it. If nobody is willing to call this thing a fraud, then maybe there is something to it after all. I did some research on Thomas Edison and found out that he in fact did believe that he had the design for a machine that could interact with the dead. Edison was a pretty smart guy and I am inclined to listen to something he so strongly believed in with an open mind. Back at the Haunted Times home page, toward the bottom of the home pate (I can't believe I missed it the first time) are links to access radio show archives and hear the evidence for yourself. I listened to the replay of the APSR Paranormal Talk Radio show and, must say, the evidence is quite compelling. This goes beyond normal EVP work. It was fun and simply fascinating to listen to and I couldn't pull myself away. I listened for hours! While listening to the evidence I did consider the fact that it could all be staged for the sake of good radio, but apparently this machine has been successfully demonstrated live on many occasions as well. Now, I'm not one to tell you what to believe or what not to believe, but I do ask that you go with an open mind and hear it for yourselves. I would love to know what you all think.
