It was first thought that only a few of us are born with the gift or talent to be creative. But research has shown that everyone has a creative potential. Unfortunately this potential has been blocked by faulty thinking. We now know that creative thinking results in better mental and emotional health. The use of your imagination will increase your confidence levels, self reliance, persuasiveness and initiative. But what exactly is creativity and how can you increase it? Creativity is a multi-faceted process that is a product of both your genes, as well as your efforts to train your mind. Just like you exercise to strengthen your muscles, you can also develop your creativity and other mental skills provided you are driven by an inner curiosity and the need to know. Left and right brain theory- wrong? Scientists have discovered that at any given time, you use only 10% of your brain’s potential. But the good news is that you can train your mind so that you can tap the other 90%. And this has nothing to do with the theory that the right brain is used more by creative and imaginative people, while the left side of the brain takes care of mathematical and logical functions. Researchers have strong reason to think that the right brain/left brain theory is on the wrong track. It is now thought that both sides process creative as well as logical thinking, with the difference that these hemispheres process information differently-whether creative or logical.
