There are certain basic principles to be kept in mind while designing a garden. This is very important to obtain the goals set by the garden owner of the garden. Some of the important elements include landscaping, designing the pathways, fencing, benches or stones for sitting or any other garden furniture, watering techniques etc. The horticultural plan which includes seasonal planting methods, the lifespan of the crops, the combination of planting etc should also be taken into consideration. Regular maintenance is also required to achieve better results. Resources need to be set up for the maintenance of the plants. The selection of location plays a very important role in garden design. There are many requirements in designing a garden. The landscape should support certain very important factors such as the topographical and climatic conditions good amount of water supply, rich soil which helps is a fertile production of the required crops. The ground conditions, the fencing, the walls, hedges, boundaries, alternative surfacing etc also should be given importance. Another two requirements which needs special mention are the electrical requirements which may be required for water pumping and also if fridges are available. Proper lighting is also very important as for most of the plants lighting is required for the photosynthesis process. The proper ways of landscaping of the pathways, alignment of crops and the garden furniture helps in the visual appearance or the scenic view of the garden. Residential gardening is also done which is generally flower gardening or vegetable gardening which can help in local supplies. Roof gardening is also done in residents or in commercial buildings especially in restaurants. Garden design can be said as a little different from gardening because it mostly includes the maintenance of the garden. More than planning and setting up a garden, its maintenance is very important. Proper steps should be taken for the proper supply of water which is very important. Bore wells with adequate water should be available. Pest control methods also should be undertaken in order to prevent the crops from getting spoilt. The harvesting should also be done at the right time especially for the seasonal crops.
