Not too high, as my weight prevented me from any huge leaps, but high enough to pack and get on a plane for the 20 hour flight to Bangkok. In childhood and my teens I’d been athletic, strong and very healthy. “Let Janet do it” was my call to duty. I could do any sport I attempted, and loved every minute of it. My working career as a Psychiatric Nurse in California was fun, and interesting, but the constant stress began to eat at me. No pun intended, but as it ate me, so I began eating to relieve my stress, and forgot about sport as well as healthy living. The pounds piled on inexorably. From 120 to almost 300 when I landed in Bangkok. Suffering one minor heart attack as well as high cholesterol and high blood pressure, I was a walking time bomb with a very short fuse! Playing with my computer one day I saw some information about Gastric Bypass surgery. Offered in Bangkok by an American surgeon, it proposed to correct my health issues as well as shrink me to a ‘normal’ size! OK, I said. Let’s do it! Nothing to lose except mass and an early grave. Less than one month later I was on the table at a Bangkok hospital for 45 minutes of laparoscopic bariatric surgery called “Roux-NY”. Six tiny pencil-size holes in my mid-section for varied instruments, camera, lights and so on, and it was done! I lost almost one kilo of weight each day for the first few months, then slowed a bit but kept steady until now I weigh a very happy 128 lbs, down from almost 300, and have not only normal blood pressure, but normal cholesterol levels and am a happy healthy size 6! It took nothing but a decision to make the change. And change me it did, in spades. Now I buy clothes off the rack, even tiny Thai-size clothes, rather than size 28-30 and feel great! I am a huge advocate in a tiny body for the whole gastric bypass idea. Anyone who wants to change their life without going through the ridiculously hard work and eventual backsliding must check out gastric bypass. It is a Slam-Dunk! And you have nothing to lose but your low self-esteem!
