Description

This project is to produce a play based on the novel King Coal by Upton Sinclair, (public domain). This play is for our community theater group.

We need to adjust the format of the novel to a script style:

- take dialogue from novel format to script format
- put descriptions in script format so we can set up stage directions
- break down the chapter and section format of the novel into a script format of Acts and Scenes

CURRENT NOVEL FORMAT

ACT I

SCENE ONE
(With a town sign of “Pedro” in the background, a young man enters the stage. He is about twenty-one years of age, with sensitive features. He wears a frayed and faded suit of clothes with a soiled blue shirt, no tie, and a pair of heavy worn boots Strapped on his back was a change of clothing and a blanket.)

(Looking slightly confused the young man approaches a tobacco stand)

HAL
(In as surly a voice as he can muster)
Can you tell me how to get to the Pine Creek Mine?

TOBACCO STAND WOMAN
(Pointing in the direction)
Just down there a-ways, head tow’rd Pine Creek Canyon and climb to the crest.
