I am of the view that learners of English (be they from English speaking homes or non-English speaking homes) should learn the language only through a heavy dose of grammar as otherwise it would become a mechanical language. And I claim to be a specialist in grammar.

| I am an American and retired lawyer who has been teaching English and French online for over a year. My students range from absolute beginners to very advanced, and are all over the world. I use a variety of platforms with my students, ranging from the usual VOIP protocols to a full, free "virtual classroom." The focus for most is on spoken English, but about a third are working on their business written English as well.
Much of my work is on accent reduction: correct vowel sounds, correct pronunciation of the letter "r," correct stress between words in a sentence, and the like. If my students are learning English to interact with anglophones, much of my vocabulary building focuses on phrasal verbs and idioms common to native English speakers that are not commonly used by people speaking English as a second language. I often use my own text materials for grammatical points, and rely heavily on authentic reading materials for my intermediate and advanced students. I also can provide references, if requested.
