First is the new exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution, “Muragga”. The Mughal Empire ruled India in the 16th 1o 19th centuries. There are wonderful paintings you can see and also calligraphy which were both commissioned by Emperors Jahangir(1605 to 27) and also Shah Jahan (1627 to 58). There are also Sufi saints and mystics that are given some history about. These works of art were collected by Chester Beatty and come to be from the Library in Dublin Ireland, in 1954. He has graciously provided these wonderful and amazing works of art for people to see from May 3 to August 3. Don’t miss a great learning experience for all ages. There is also a photo contest with the “Visions of Gandhi” as the title. You can take photos of any type and use the quotations from Mahatma Gandhi, such as “If light can come out of darkness, then love can emerge from hate” or “True beauty after all consists of purity of heart”, also “Religions are different roads converging upon the same point. What does it matter that we take different roads so long as we reach the same goal?” These are the quotes you may align your picture with. Beautiful words from a wonderful person who should have lived longer. But there are reasons for all things to happen, that we can’t always figure out. Also on October 2, there is an anniversary for the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. This is something that everyone should try and attend if at all possible. This is a celebration of a wonderful and wise person. Another thing to look at when looking at India is how many larger US companies are actually over in India with businesses now located there. There are several huge companies, and also in our first story that showed Indian people who have contributed to the US we saw several different companies that were headed by India’s finest. Some of the fortune 500 companies are Johnson & Johnson, McDonalds, AT & T, Citicorp, Apple Computer, Kellogg Company, Intel. These are only a few of the fortune 500 companies that are in India. India is a big contributor to the US economy, as well as US companies are big contributors to their economy too.
