Hi,
Research Project: Problem-Solving Anecdotes
I'd like anecdotes of historical figures-- inventors, businessmen, generals-- who:
a) encountered a specific, quantifiable obstacle, e.g., couldn't get X to work after Y number of efforts, couldn't move his army of X troops beyond a wall defended by X men, etc.
b) changed tactics, in some specific, quantifiable, way, e.g., moved X men in a left-ward sweep behind the defenders, changed an ingredient from powder X to liquid Y, etc.
c) achieved a specific, quantifiable result, e.g., built a successful X, defeated an army of X men, made X money.
Each anecdote should be accompanied by the reference that supports it:
Book name, page, author.
