Description

Skillprover UK Ltd are looking for a talented C# and JavaScript developer who can write a small benchmark utility to compare timings of server and client browser round trips.

Here are the skills needed:

MS C# .Net (aspx + codebehind)
Strong JavaScript
MS Access

The task is to write an ASPX application that will comprise of just 1 webform containing one large JPEG image that would take time to display and 1 button “SEND”. The backend writes to an access database a report of both client and server timings in table “TIMINGS”.

So the sequence of events are thus:

1) startup page_load server timer starts recording.
2) webform fully loads and fully visible
3) client javascript timer starts when last control completely rendered to the screen (z-order use here?)
4) SEND is clicked and the javascript timer stops recording at the client based event only.
5) the codebehind for the SEND button receives the javascript elapsed time. (could be from a hidden field?)
6) the codebehind stops the server timer
7) both elapsed times are saved into TIMINGS

It is VERY IMPORTANT that the browser Javascript time CAPTURES ONLY elapsed time from the moment the final control is successfully displayed by the browser.

This application will involve editing the ASPX file to insert javascript code manually.

If the client browser is not Internet Explorer or Netscape, pass a –1 value to the server since we are only supporting this to work with IE and NS.

For an experienced developer, this represents about 1 days work. Coding style is up to you but you must use meaningful variable names.
