Bid On This Project

Description

I need a small application (prefer as VB.NET) to search database and display documents, as indicated by the record. Then, it should display the matching documents.

Here is the high level spec.

There are 4 fields in the file:
1. Account Number (12345;55555;34248)
2. Customer Number (ABC123;AAA999)
3. Policy numbers (E807026;E807027)
4. DocumentPath (C:\My Document\Temp\ABC111.pdf)

The application should search for matching account number, customer number, policy number. It should allow for ((?) fix character wildcard search, (*) full wildcard & exact match).

• Fix Character allows user to enter a question mark (?) for any character that he/she isn’t sure about
• Full WildCard Search allows users to do a full wild card search, regardless of the number of missing character.
• Exact match allows users to search by exact match. Note that the filed contain multi-value, separated by semi-colon. So the search will be a wildcard search (value start/end with optional semi-colon “;” ignoring any blanks).

After the search completes, users get a list of matching search.

AccountNumber CustomerNumber PolicyNumber DateTimeStamp DocPath
12345;55555 ABC12345 E807026 05/07/2009 16:14 C:\12345.pdf
12346 ZZZ999;A3;B4 E807027 06/07/2009 16:14 C:\12346.pdf

The users click on the record, then the application display documents, as specified in the Document_Path field. The document is in PDF format. Database will be in Microsoft-Access.

If there is no match, the user gets the message. There should be a refresh button to allow user to enter new search criteria.

I will send file and sample record detail to bid winner. The bidding price includes the source code, which will become my property after the completion of the project.

1. How is the document database being built? And shouldn't this tool be a part of that process? 2. MsAccess provides some excellent, 'user friendly' search and filtering tools, have you considered using them? 3. Selecting a document by a bunch of numbers? Numbers that permit wild card abstractions? This is going to be easy to use, huh. How about making this human and adding some keyword searches? {smile}. Oh, and you had the price of this project (250-750) more like what it should be the first time around. It is fine if you disagree. Or if you think "wow, programming and systems? It is so easy a caveman can do it." But please, when you go to teach your users how to use this so called "very simple" application, and then watch their blank faces as you tell them how to use it? Please tell your people, that having a well thought out, simple and easy system to use, just wasn't worth the money to spend on them. Keep in mind, that teaching people how to use software costs money. Keep in mind, that using poorly designed and inefficient software costs money. In the end, it really does prove true, you only get what you pay for. Rather than get the job done right the first time, some like to think that there is some kind of glory in saying "I tried." There are doers, and there are pretenders. Which one are you? Hello my name is Bill.. I am a VB.Net, VB6, VBA, VBScript, SQL, MsAccess, MsExcel, and Windows programming Expert, Leader and Mentor [screenname:wsh2] at www.vbcity.com and www.experts-exchange.com. I have successfully completed quite a few GAF projects, so you can find additional references for me here: http://elance.com/users/feedback_172391.html I have 20+ years of hands-on Programming and Business Information System experience to include document retrieval applications similar to yours. I have a BS in Accounting with a Marketing Minor and graduated college with the highest of honors. I am located in Easton PA USA (halfway between Philadelphia and New York City). American english is my only language. I look forward to assisting you in achieving all of your goals in this endeavor. Respectfully, Bill.
