Description

Here is my issue:

I have over a large number of categories and sub categories and so on, to be honest about 66,000

Well why you ask, becuase im creating an automotive peroformance parts website and the stucture for each car goes like this

make/model/year/ then a selection of about 9 categories like engine, suspension, brakes, and some sub categories under some

So overall it spans with all the cars to about 66,000 categories.

Virtuemart is fine in the frontend. does'nt slow down at all. It can handle all those categories

BUT!

my issue is having all those categories load when adding or editing a product from the back end.

In the back end on the edit product page. (product.product_form.php) It loads all the categories at once, which is 60 thousand queries executed.

Here is what i thinking:

What i need is a better way of loading and selecting the categories in the product form, in the back end.

Maybe it can load all the parent categories first so it doesnt load 66 thousand things. Then in a tree like structure, like clicking a plus sign, then it will just load the sub categories then so on with all child categories under it. and have it just load when clicked to show.

I dont know if this can be done or if there is a better method but im all ears.
Also a possibility.

Since i just do all my categorie management thru CSV, Then what i can work with is, how about just when i open to edit a product cant, it just load and display all the categories already assigned to it?

Ive already tryed to remove form that displays the categories and it helps as it doesnt load all those categories anymore but then i get this error when i try and save it "error: must select a category"

Even if i could just remove that error i would be happy.

I dont know im open for ideas.

Ive added a pic to show you the categorie form from the backend i was talking about.

Thank you

So my question is

Ether, how to i remove the must select category error

OR

How do i get it to load about a quarter or the categories in that area, or just load the categories allready assigned to the product.

Specs:

joomla 1.0.15
Virtuemart: 1.0.15

Please help a poor soul

Thank you.
