Description:	Program functionality Purpose: to accept data input and produce formatted excel sheets. Brief: We’re looking for a customizable program which is light on resources and can be run on windows. The purpose of the program is for a data entry operator to input select financial data into the respective fields and obtain a formatted output in excel (.xls) format. Key functions: • We need to be able to modify the fields. For instance, we should be able to tell the program which fields we want, say net income, operating expenses, etc. and modify them based on our requirements. The output format should not change. • Some fields will be calculated and some will be input directly. Sometimes a field such as a ratio is available either directly or we have to calculate it. We would like the program to be able to accept both, and automatically turn off the other field. For instance, if we enter net income margin directly, the fields used to calculate it should automatically turn off. FORMULA DEPENDENCY WILL HAVE TO BE ANALYZED PROPERLY • It should have the ability to translate currency by pressing a button. For instance, we should be able to tell it what the currency we are using is, and the currency exchange rates (either standard ones that we provide or specific ones for that file). Based on that, the output should get automatically changed to a language of our choice, with a default USD conversion. • It should have unit conversion. Numbers are usually in millions, thousands or mixed. It should have an option to select the unit for that sheet, and use the default throughout. However, we should be able to selectively change the unit for specific fields as well. • We should be able to add fields on a temporary basis. For instance, for all companies, the sheet should have certain specified metrics. However, sometimes we need to add a few metrics based on the specific conditions of a particular company. I would also like to explore the possibility of having an internal QC reporting system within the program so the analyst can quickly read through and see what is right and what is not, flag details and so on. The above are some key requirements of the model. The basic output format, etc. will be provided to shortlisted candidates. Please note that this is my first time hiring a programmer and my budget is very small. I once had an employee write a similar program in VBA (Excel 2003) in a short period of time so I don’t think it will be too expensive. Before i share further details with you, i'd like to add that i will take some time making a final decision so you needn't worry if i don't respond right away to your PMs. The source of the data will be SEC filings http://sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html. you could either go to this website and retrieve an html filing or ask me to send it to you. the idea is as follows: 1. we need to be able to define a certain number of financial metrics, such as revenue, net income, etc. for each industry. Within that industry, the metric names and numbers will not change. The output i will expect will be similar to the file attached. when a different industry is in question, we will need to be able to change the metric names and possibly values. I'd like to be able to pick on a more qualitative basis amongst all of you. However, very few of you have actually made the effort to explain why i should pick you. it would help if you can look at the file and then explain your methodology (i'm not looking for code, but rather how the process that i want will work). 06/14/2008 at 5:06 EDT: something to get the ideas flowing.
