Prologue Bradley Chu, Investor, strides purposefully into his sleeping quarters with Book in one hand and suitcase in the other. He sets the suitcase on the bed, sits down immediately at the redwood desk and opens the Book. The sound of a ringing bell alerts him that a message has arrived from an anonymous sender; it's entitled "Real Renaissance Revealed." 'Bradley waves a hand and murmurs a password. Vague bursts of light shoot up from his bookscreen, and begin to take shape. Cursing in guttural Chinese, he waves his hand again and the images hovering in the air dissolve and re-appear. He glares at the screen, folds his arms, and watches, cursing and muttering to himself all the while. ***** Welcome, Truth Tellers of the World! It's June 15, 2049, and you are watching BEFORE THE RECORD, where we catch the news before it breaks. I'm Captain Truth, reporting from Agello, Italy. We're just a stone's throw from the beautiful medieval city of Perugia, where you can climb the cobblestone hillsides, learn Italian in the sidewalk cafes and purchase world-famous Perugina chocolates at a deep discount if you click on the ad to my right. We continue now with the second episode of Real Renaissance Revealed, our investigation of the biggest international scandal of the 21st century. Our first interview today is with the irresistible, and irresistibly beautiful, Countess Giulia Antonini Zuckerman, of Perugia, Italy. We're visiting her in Agello, her ancestral homestead in the hills above town. Countess Giulia may or may not be guilty of misappropriating vast sums of government money -- or of hawking poisonous medications that claim to lengthen lives -- but this I know: she has one son, Count Raffaello, who lives in the United States. That's right, Count Raffaello Antonini Zuckerman. Does he sound like a vampire to you? He does to me too. You'll never hear him use that name, it might make too many people suspicious of his real motives. He's last scion of the Antonini family. He's also an American businessman and scientist, known to the United States public as Ralph "Zuck" Zuckerman. Count Raffaello is none other than the Founder himself, the Doctor Faustus of Beverly Hills, the CEO of that now infamous corporation, Renaissance Pharmaceuticals, the man whose haughty negligence and overweening ambition may have cheated you and millions of your fellow citizens of billions of taxpayer dollars over the last thirty years. Don't worry, Mom didn't hear this introduction; I'm doing a voiceover. In fact, she doesn't know who I am or why I'm putting her on my show. But you do, because I'll tell you. We're here to find out how the sins of the Mothers are visited upon the Sons! (The voice of Captain Truth changes audibly to a much dirtier, less engineered sound.) "Good morning, Countess!" "Good morning, my friend. I believe this is my first interview with a cartoon character." "Countess! Never judge a character by his cartoon! Ladies and gentlemen, Countess Antonini is, unlike me, made of flesh and blood, and she turns eighty this year with nary a blemish or wrinkle on her cheeks nor a strand of white hair. No surprise to any of you, I imagine, that she jogs two miles every day and has just taken the helm of her 500-million-dollar family business, the Antonini Wineries, in the wake of her father's retirement at the tender age of 115! I came looking for the Countess at this 18th century villa here in the hills of Tuscany.." continued in PM

A man crawls out from underneath a snow pile, shakes himself like a dog, sending snowflakes flying, and shuffles into his apartment. He makes a pot of coffee and turns on his computer. Clicking into the Get A Freelancer Web site, this man sees an ad for a fiction writer. Hey! He says to himself. That's me! He gets a cup of coffee, sits back down at the computer and begins to type. I'm writing a book and im sure that Im going to be somewhat late on that publishment but I'll have more than enough time for this job. Example: A white male said to himself as he got out of the white Ferrari: "Nothing is like a nice hot bath after a long day on work" He fantasized this while shaking, his hand shaking so badly that he couldn't get the key into the slit so that he could lock the car. The airbag at the passenger side deployed as he kicked the wheel to try to ease his shaking, It worked long enough for him to be able to lock the car. The man didn't lag about when he got up to the front yard. This time and this place he owned everything a man would want to own. A Ferrari, A house, a bubble bath. All a man would want and need in any situation. Nothing could stop him now from living as he wanted as the writer he were. As he came into the white house he heard the phone ring, A clearly russian accented man said: "Car for car and car is never car for car so you should never car a car without a car. He suddenly stood over a body of a black man in a suit, a shot to the head was clear he saw the bloody spread that were on everything except himself, and he screamed of fright... what have I done? ---

Here is a sample of my writing A multitude of waving people line the broad and empty street as a wall of motorcycles slowly moves forward in unison. The rumbling sound and occasional backfires of the engines ricochets off the surrounding buildings not unlike the sound of rolling thunder. Beyond the advancing wave of motorcycles, a parade of limousines, sedans, and busses follow at a crawl. The lead car, white and blazing in the noontime sun draws the attention of one of the many men in black who fill the car immediately behind the first limousine. An errant glint of light, perhaps a window sliding open, causes the man in black to swing his gaze abruptly upwards towards the windowed crystal bluffs that line the vulnerable path ahead. The limousine appears to float down Main Street as its honored occupant responds to the crowd with acknowledging nods, relaxed waves of his hand, and an occasional unrestrained burst into smile. At his side is his wife, demure and elegant, the center of attention in spite of the fact that she in the presence of the most powerful man in the world.

I will be happy to provide you with samples of my writing. This sounds like an excellent adventure that I would absoluteley LOVE to embark on! Where may I submit my sample to? The figure 900 means that I would never get the job done, because it would be on going every month in the magazine! Sincerely, Tarina The Hottest Job, by TarinaR She sat by herself intently writing up a storm. I know I can get their attention thought Tarina. I must do something completely original. Well thought out, mysterious, and a little bit of action and a hint of romance should do the trick. As she started to write, she felt a tap on her shoulder. She spun around and was face to face with a pimple faced thug who couldn't have been more than 12 years old. Tarina, without hesitating, grabbed the scoundrel by the scruff of his collar and with a grunt and a sudden whip threw him flying, just as he was airborn Tarina gave him a swift kick in the pants for good measure. The kid got up and red faced ran out of the diner. Tarina got up and was putting her laptop away when somebody behind said "Exscuse me, Zena?" Well Tarina thought this was hilarious and started to laugh, and sized up the fellow at the same time. He seemed safe, but that wasn't any measure of comfort these days, not in the streets of New York. She held up her hand to stop the man from even starting and said to him "Sorry Buddy, but I'm plum out of any resources to help you out." This was just great thought Tim Reilly, of a certain company that was looking for a writer to do an ongoing story in his magazine. He cleared his throat and said "I was under the impression that you're a writer?" At this Tarina looked shocked, and then turned red herself. "Why yes, sir, indeed I am. Might I introduce myself properly?" Tim replied with a shake of his head, which wasn't a good sign thought Tarina. "I thought I might offer you a job. I think if you can handle a pen the way you handled that thug, we should not have any problems whatsoever!" Tarina giggled, and said "You will not be regret your decision dear sir. When do I start?" "How about whenever you get yourself home, you can sign in with this?" He hands her a slip of paper. Tarina sighed and thanked the man profusely. When Tarina made it home to her apartment, she quickly kicked off her heels and scurried to make a coffee and got down to business.

I write swiftly and with style, and will be able to deliver each instalment on time without fail every month, I never let my clients down. My bid represents $30 for each monthly instalment. This sounds like a fascinating project and one with which I am keen to be involved. I have sent you a PM with links to my writing.

I am currently participating in NANOWRIMO (a worldwide competition to write 50 000 words in the month of November) so I am sure I will be able to meet your word count promptly and easily. My bid is per monthly submission. Here is a sample from my Nanowrimo work in progress. My main character is emerging from a the basement of a supermarket in the aftermath of what he thinks may have been a nuclear attack. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. Not even the post apocalyptic B movies I frequently rented and watched alone in my apartment. A scene of complete destruction was laid out before me. The air was thick, clogged with smoke and dust. The door was placed at the back of the produce section and I was looking towards the front of the store. Every piece of glass had shattered and it was scattered across the floor and the shelves. The far right wall had completely collapsed into a pile of brick, mortar, wires and debris and part of the roof appeared to be in danger of caving in. It was sagging towards the ground and, as I was looking up, an ominous, low groaning sound came from the ceiling. I took a hesitant step forward, then abruptly stopped. There were two bodies lying in the aisle, about twelve feet away from me. Their skin was seared and suddenly I could smell the burnt flesh. It was a young girl and her father and it looked like he had tried to shield her with his body. She was wearing a thick pink jacket, which had caught fire and burned away in chunks, revealing blackened skin. Her head was protected by her father’s chest, but I could see ringlets of blond hair poking out from underneath. Her father’s body was so charred that I could see to the bone and it appeared that the rubber on his winter boots had melted onto the tile floor. I turned and vomited in the potato display. I didn’t want to see any more, I wanted to forget what I had already seen, but I needed to make it to the front window to try to figure out what had happened. I could see now that there were corpses in every aisle. I moved forward slowly and then remembered Douglas’ advice and quickened my pace. There was a body sprawled face down in front of me, blocking my path. I couldn’t tell if they were a man or a woman, young or old, any distinguishing characteristics were now ashes. Holding my breath, I gingerly stepped over them, shocked and disgusted. To see the human form in such a state was nearly more than my mind could handle. I deliberately avoided looking towards the checkout tills. I didn’t want to see my coworkers, the cashiers that I shyly spoke with daily, joked around with, in that condition. It was hard enough looking at the inert, charred forms of strangers, to see people I knew would have broken me down completely. There was no sign that anyone up here was still alive. It was obvious that nobody could have lived through whatever had happened for long. Whoever had screamed must have died from their injuries almost immediately after. My stomach heaved again but I kept walking. I wiped away the sweat that kept dripping into my eyes, it was incredibly hot still even though nothing around me was currently on fire. My jeans were sticking to my legs and moisture was running down my back. I reached the front of the store where the windows were completely blown out. The resulting shower of glass had torn into everything in its path. The bodies here were mutilated and unrecognizable, a pulpy mass. I stopped looking down, but this caused my right foot to slip in something thick and wet. I fell onto my knees, in a pool of blood and I felt the sticky liquid seep into my jeans. I stayed on my hands and knees and vomited again until there was nothing left. Bile burned the back of my throat, sour and acidic. Shakily, I got to my feet and made it to the front where the windows had been and looked out the gaping hole. Douglas was right. A distinctive mushroom shaped cloud hung over the city, several miles to the southeast. It was hard to see because it had darkened the sky, but it was there. I couldn’t see much around me, but it was obvious that a large segment of Toronto had been entirely destroyed. Reduced to rubble and ashes. I looked down the street to the left and right. There was no movement and lying on the sidewalk were several dead pigeons. I could see the smoke from several fires. The area where my apartment building had stood was ablaze. The enormity of the situation hit me and I realized how many people had just died.

Hi. I'm new to www.getafreelancer.com. I would absolutely love to do this. I can work for $50 per month. I'm a quick and effecient worker and I deliver quality work. Please seriously consider my bid. I've included a sample below. This sample is used as a fictional library story on a site called Elyzeria.com. I'm not sure about the type of writing you need, but I can do several styles of fictional writing. This is a fantasy excerpt. “Listen, my son,” El’Onkoi whispers to his son Lenbak. “This is the most important lesson you will ever learn.” El’Onkoi stares deeply into his son’s eyes. I have to make sure he gets this right or he’ll never be a true Dragon Magic Mage. Lenbak looks away after what seems like ages. He never could hold his father’s gaze for very long. Brushing his long blue hair out of his eyes he looks back to his father. I never realized how old he was getting. Now look at him. Studying his father’s wrinkles on his forehead, the short stubby nose, sagging skin under his almond shaped eyes made him think of the sack of potatoes he keeps hidden under his bed. That’s what he looks like, a discarded forgotten old potato sack. “Lenbak! Focus on what you are doing!” Startled at his father’s loud voice he jumped and almost dropped the leaf he was manipulating. Remembering this was his last lesson he tried to focus again. Stare at the leaf and see it’s heart, he recited the chant his father had taught him in his mind, feel its pain, its joy, and its love. Become its friend and learn its art. Once you have it give it a shove. Shove he did. He used his mind to push the green leaf out of his small pale hand and into the breeze. The leaf dangles there for seconds and then floats slowly to the ground. “Good Lenbak!” His father smiles at him, the corners of his eyes creasing like birds’ claws. “You did it my son!” El’Onkoi grabs his son in his small arms and squeezes tightly. He holds him out at arms length again and stares at him. “This is a good day. Now let us study the garden. I will teach you what each plant can do.” My son, I am so proud of you this day! El’Onkoi thinks to himself. He holds his son’s gaze longer, he thinks, than Lenbak would like. Look at him. He looks just like his mother. Those blue eyes and long blue hair. If only she could see him today. Oh, Mara, why did you have to die so soon? Again Lenbak falters under his father’s bold eyes. He searches for something to draw the attention away from him. Then he sees it. “Father, what is this? I have never seen this plant before.” Lenbak walks quickly around his father and kneels to a brightly shining neon green plant. Its leaves are white but lined in the neon green color. He touches it and finds it’s actually a gel of some sort. Suddenly the plant stiffens. Quickly, Lenbak snatches his hand away. He’s seen this before. He tries to turn and run but before he can the plant snatches at his ankle and holds tightly, the neon goo burning his skin. “Hmm,” El’Onkoi stares at his son’s ankle. The plant, tightly wrapped around Lenbak’s ankle, will not let go. “Well Lenbak, what have you got yourself into?” Lenbak’s normally pale skin is now bright red where the plant is attached. “Oh, that’s bad. Are you alright?” Staggering back slightly from the odor El’Onkoi almost falls into an Elder Bush. It’s prickly leaves come dangerously close to stabbing him in the back. Phew, I almost got hurt there. Better keep my wits about me. The Green One has summoned him. I can’t wait any longer, he thinks to himself. “Lenbak, you will listen to me now,” he says to his son. “This will be your last lesson as an elven mage. You know that the magic I teach you is almost forgotten. Few remember it and those that do will not admit to it for fear of dying at the hands of our Lord. This magic is dangerous and you will not find a friend in this land nor in nature.” El’Onkoi stoops down and slowly sits on the ground. He leans to his sons face and grabs Lenbak’s chin. Holding his face he stares at his son. Stares and holds Lenbak so he cannot look away.

I can write in pretty much any genre (including literary), but this story opening is high fantasy: Ana woke from her usual dreamless sleep. The tent was still dark, almost pitch-black, and she knew she had once again beaten the sun. She stood up and dressed quickly, rolling her bedclothes in with the thin blankets under which she slept. She opened the tent, taken for a moment with the beauty of the stars that shone overhead. She spent so much time looking for meaning in their positions, she could only notice their beauty by surprise. They shifted slowly, so slowly most people would not notice, but Ana was as aware of their changes as she was of the wind that played against her face. She got a small fire going and made cam. As she waited for the water to boil she ate some bread, lamenting how little food she had even after replenishing her stores in the last village. She was strong, but there was only so much she could carry, and villages and towns were few and far between in these parts. She looked around and felt grateful she was in an area that would provide her with food if necessary. She was in a clearing in the Arbu forest, a place thatwhile not friendlywas rich with game and edible plants. She drank what she wanted of her cam and threw the rest of the water on the fire. The sound of a cracking branch brought her up short. She'd been hearing the usual sounds of the forest all morning, but this sound was different. Deliberate. She turned to her left, from where the sound came, and drew her dagger. She suspected she was dealing with a belua of the forest, but she couldn't be sure. Not until it showed itself. The belua stepped out into the clearing, a clear sign it was challenging her. Ana's stomach did a slow, unpleasant roll. A belua was an ugly thing; in the tales Ana had heard growing up, a belua could drive a man crazy from looking at it. She held up her dagger, ready to fight. But then the belua seemed to look beyond her, an expression of fear coming over its face. It turned and ran back into the forest. Ana turned. Behind her was a man. He stood in the clearing as if he had merely appeared there instead of walked into it from the forest, and Ana had no doubt he had. He was Sebastian, her nemesis, a witch doctor who was her enemy from the moment she was born. An enemy of her kind for generations, in fact. Ana felt her limbs go slack. Hello, Ana,” he said mildly. “You didn't expect me to find you so soon, I see. I'm sorry. I suppose now we must hash out our differences.” He drew his sword. Ana's eyes darkened, as they always did when she was angry. “How many times must I show you that you cannot read the Elves, Sebastian?” She put away her dagger and drew her sword.
