Bid On This Project

Description

I need a small VB.NET application that can, at midnight every night, automatically capture the XML guts of a daily public government internet report, and save it to an .xml file on our server. Then I need an ASP.NET page for my website that can display the report nicely (as a table) to our customers.

The Url of the government report is here:

http://marketnews.usda.gov/portal/fv?&repType=termPriceDaily&paf_dm=full&repTypeChanger=termPriceDaily&commAbr=APL&commAbr=PCH&commAbr=PEAR&lastLocation=&step2=true&type=termPrice&type=termPrice&rowDisplayMax=25&lastCommodity=&startIndex=1&locAbr=AJ&paf_gear_id=1200002&locName=&run=Run&previousVal=&locChoose=location&repDate=&endDate=&step3date=true&step3date=true&blech=&dr=1

The top part with the advertising and buttons, I don’t want to show. The bottom part only (the gray tabular report body) is what I want to display to our customers.

The XML of the report can be downloaded by clicking the button in the above report.
The Url of the underlying XML is here:

http://marketnews.usda.gov/gear/usda/report_output_xml.jsp?/portal/fv?&repType=termPriceDaily&paf_dm=full&repTypeChanger=termPriceDaily&commAbr=APL&commAbr=PCH&commAbr=PEAR&lastLocation=&step2=true&type=termPrice&type=termPrice&rowDisplayMax=25&lastCommodity=&startIndex=1&locAbr=AJ&paf_gear_id=1200002&locName=&run=Run&previousVal=&locChoose=location&dr=1&repDate=&endDate=&step3date=true&step3date=true&blech=&xml=true

I already have an ASP.NET page that simply displays the government report, as is, in an IFrame. It was very easy and simple, and works well, but has the disadvantage of showing the large report advertisement and buttons at the top that I don’t want displayed.

The ideal, but perhaps impossible, solution would be just an ASP.NET page that can automatically pull the XML data directly from the government report in realtime, and then display it without the top advertising section. In other words, instead of having to download and save an .xml file every night, just pull it live using the ASP.NET page. However I think that’s probably impossible. Is it?

So instead, as said, I will be happy with a two part solution:
1. A small vb.net Windows Form app that can capture the XML and save it to an .xml file, and
2. An ASP.NET page that can apply XSL against the XML and display just the tabular part of the report, with roughly the same style of formatting, to our customers.

A one part solution, as just an ASP.NET page alone, as I said, would be even better.

I’ll need all source code of course, which I’ll be using in Visual Studio 2005.
Thanks for bidding.

My budget for this project is $50.

Hi, I'm interested in this project (fairly easy, it just require more time in developing xslt then coding asp.net page :D ) and I have just a question about it: A) why you need to save at midnight xml file and then apply xslt against it? can't be dynamically retrieved xml feed from supplied url? Best, Dario
