| Description: |
The program locates trend lines within a stock chart, and then provides information about the lines in numeric terms.
When a stock is moving in a general down direction, it will undergo small rallies in the price. Each rally (or peak) will be lower than the previous one as the stock declines. Eventually, the stock will either turn around and head back up, or it will move into non-existence. I am interested in the stocks that turn back up and “break-out” to the upside.
When a series of peaks are created, each one successively lower than the previous, they create a downward sloping line (like connect the dots – see red line attached in the jpeg). This line is plotted into the future. The stock will tend to rally to this line each time it moves up (before continuing down). When the stock finally moves above this red line, the stock will have reversed direction, and broken-out of the downward movement.
(see jpeg) The program will locate these peaks.
The program will then plot the red line.
The red line will be projected into the future, with each future day being assigned a value for the red line.
The program will then compare the value for the red line on each future day to the actual stock price of the day. (The program is looking at historical charts, so the lines searched for will have been fully created and broken to the upside.) When the actual price of the stock moves above the red line by a user-defined percentage, the program will run some basic calculations and provide an output file with that data in it.
The program will provide a CSV output file with some basic information about the red line, and the stock movement after the breakout.
The data for some 2,000+ stocks are located in individual CSV files within a folder. Each stock’s file contains a vertical list of daily closing price of each stock and the date of the closing going back several years. The user will define how many days of data to analyze. The user will also define a minimum price for the stock on the day of the breakout.
This program can be created using Excel or other program, but the total run time should not be more than 25 minutes.
All source code is required to be provided, in addition to the executable file. No rights are retained by the programmer and all rights are transfered to me, the buyer. I may resell or otherwise use this program as I see fit. You agree to keep confidential all work you do on this program.
Upon bidding I will provide a detailed document indicating how the red line is to be calculated and exactly what data I am looking for. The program will need to perform basic mathematical calculations on the data. Please pay special attention to the fact the red line needs to be plotted into the future and that each future price (per day) must be compared with the actual stock price.
Attached is a copy of a data file.
Please note I am very price sensitive. I will accept a bid from someone with no feedback but who understands my needs. Also, if you already have a simple graphing program and can incorporate a tool to quickly view the stock and my "red line" from the results file, please indicate this in your bid.

Please note I do NOT require charting with this program.
Also, it is NOT a regression or advanced calculus based program that I seek. It is also NOT an end-user type program I desire. It doesn't need to be pretty or fancy, just provide a good output CSV file!
I have outlined some very simple rules to determine how to calculate the red lines (info not posted here for privacy). I need my data sets to be run, these very basic calculations to be done, and an output CSV file to be created. Nothing more and nothing less.
Thanks!
